• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have received two reports in the past couple of days indicating AIFP does not work with Win11. This may be true; AIFP has never been tested with Win 11 and I can say with a high degree of certainty that there won't be an update for that purpose.

That being said, AIFP uses standard NET Framework and should be Windows release independent.

If any of you are using AIFP successfully with Win 11, Please report so here. Also please offer any help you are able to those having difficulty.

If you are having difficulty, Please backup your current AIFP folder and reload AIFP.

AIFP : "No version of Flightsim found in System Registry. AIFP cannot continue and will now shut down"

I have Win 11 and FS2004 on my notebook.

Just tested on Win11, automatically checked for and downloaded v3.1.15, installed, tested, ran fine.

Solution:
I created an aifp.ini with only first 3 lines of the win 19 aifp.ini.

Now aifp found fs9 and created a full aifp.ini at program shut down.

So, Guenther, it would seem if someome updates to Win 11, some "fiddling with other apps (such as FlightSim, P3D and AIFP) is necessary.

Win 10 tells me my system is not updatable to Win 11. At this stage I'm not about to invest in a new computer.. Hopefully, someone who understands what is going on/required will take the time to document the issues.

my 5 years old desktop is not okay for win 11 (I5-7500),
but it runs fine for my needs, so I stay with win 10.

As I mentioned on the other thread, AIFP works just fine on Win 11 for me.

Edit:

looking more closely at what Guenther said, 3.4.3.15 and 3.4.1.6(b) do not connect with FS9. Version 3.2.22.3 does successfully connect with FS9. I'm busy tomorrow, but I'll have a look during the week and see if I can see what's going on. I have FS9, FSX:SE, P3Dv4, P3Dv5 and MSFS installed.

I can concur. AIFP works absolutely fine on Windows 11, as does FS9 and FSX.

Reading what Guenther says it seems that rather than update to Win 11 from an existing PC it is a completely new PC that he has got.
In that situation either copying FS9 or even physically moving an FS9 drive across to the new PC will not work. It does need to have its path inserted into the registry as well, either manually or by using a tool.
It maybe that the AIFP.ini had the location of the original FS9 location and just needed that updating manually. This part is just supposition.

I am using 3.4.3.15 but whilst testing I did find an interesting thing.
As I was using the same version that Guenther had the issue with I loaded up AIFP and switched from MSFS to FS9 and loaded a plan. What I noticed was that some locations in the airport list were blank and showing as unknown. I knew this to be false.

It then dawned on me that the cause must be due to the version switching. Sure enough the AirportList_AddOns.dat was the MSFS version that I created using the Collect Airport Data. So the switching from one version to another is not as simple as clicking on the radio button for the Target Version.
To get out of the situation it was a case of rebuilding the addons list for FS9 but that would mean losing the list of MSFS.

Now if you operate only 1 sim then it would not be an issue. If you operated 2 or more sims then it becomes more of an issue.

I think, in an ideal world, it would be nice that if you switch Target Versions then the AirportList_AddOns.dat gets renamed to AirportList_AddOns.xxx where xxx is the starting target version.
Then a check to see if there is an AirportList_AddOns.yyy where yyy is the new target version. If it is then it gets renamed to AirportList_AddOns.dat .

Would this be possible? Of course, if you can see a simpler solution to achieve the same thing then that would be fine.

I'm afraid I am unable to make further changes. I'm not sure I clearly understand what is the problem we're chasing. It seems to be a by-product of switching to Wim 11. Several users have confirmed that in general, AIFP is compatible with Win 11.

Therefore, my suggestion is that for users who are experiencing difficulty with Win 11. Re-install AIFP to a new folder. Or simply delete AIFP.ini and the several AIiportList_***.dat files and restart AIFP.

From recent reports, it seems that Win 11 changes the registry location of the key elements used by AIFP (and all my other apps and other apps such as ADE) to determine the locations of the various Flightsim variants) AIFP.ini contains the last valid path found to each version of Flightsim, their SDKs and other useful elements. If you simply restart AIFP, AIFP will use the last saved path. Otherwise it will look for a path from the registry. Of course, if you re-install AIFP after switching to Win 11, there is no AIFP.ini file and no last valid paths to Flightsim, etc, and AIFP will not restart. So, if you have attempted to reinstall AIFP (or any of my other apps) after switching to Win 11, you need the AIFP.ini file from the earlier installation.

As I have said on previous occasions, my system is not capable of running Win 11 and, at this stage, I'm not about to invest in a new computer. But, I someone identifies the path Win 11 uses for each variant and tells me how I can determine whether or not Win 11 is running, I'll do my best to update my registry searches.

Don, I have Win11. I just tested with both AIFP and AFLT, the available downloads from your website, extracted to an empty folder each.

Both applications detected FS9, FSX, P3Dv3 and P3Dv5 which I have installed in D:\FS9, D:\FSX, D:\P3Dv3 and E:\P3Dv5.

So this is no general problem.
