• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

air-file for ultra light

Hey!
I need a modification to be done to the air-file of one of the aircrafts I'm using. It's about "ranss6cy.zip", made by Christian Davi, and which seems to have a Cessna air-file.
However, this aircraft is a ultra light, and using the Cessna air-file it takes too long a roll distance for taking off and landing, and moreover the strobes are too far away from the body of the aircraft, and there are some other less minor things that are not like they should be.
My question now: how can I modify these items so as to have them matching for an ultra light, which eg. takes off after only 300 meter instead of after 600-700 meter rolling distance?
Or, does anybody know where to find a better air-file for this aircraft for FS2004?

Hey again....

Meanwhile I was searching for better results, but you know?... I saw that in fact all ultralights that I found at Flightsim.Com or at Avsim and at otherplaces, when one uses them as an AI-aircraft, they all need too long a runway to take off.
Most ULM-airfields have in reality very short runways ( 300 meter or so, 500 meter is already a very long ULM-runway... ), and when one makes a scenery of such an ULM airfield, one cannot make a runway which is twice as long as the original in reality is, only to let AI-ultralights take off visually well....

My question is here: how can I modify an aircraft.cfg-file or an *.air-file so that the ultralight will take off on a short runway?

Usually when one flies an ultralight in FS9, and it takes off after say 300 meter or so, the same ultralight used as an AI-aircraft, needs about 600 or 700 meter before it takes off, and that means that will overpass the edge of the airfield still being on the ground.... This is not acceptable!

Cab anybody give me some hints on how to manipulate data of the two files concerned for the roll-off and the roll-on distances of aircraft...

Hi Jive1

I'm afraid that, although it is straight forward with some experience to shorten the take off distance, this cannot be done in isolation. I can give several methods which will shorten the runway take off distance, but all of them will also affect the landing and in most cases will prevent landing. Further modifications would be necessary to then correct the landing.

The sort of performance you are looking for, however, is probably very close to the simulated helicopter AI for FS9. As a starting point I would suggest using the Airfile AND aircraft.cfg file you will find in ai helicopter packages. Just transfer the [fltsim.xx], [contact-points] and [lights] sections from your aircraft to the aircraft.cfg which comes with the helicopter air file (stemme_as_heicopter1.air). DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE. Look for aiheli_*.zip at avsim, they are originally intended for FS2002 but are universally used for all the current sim versions.

Make sure you change the sim= line in the aircraft.cfg to match the air file in use or the aircraft will not show up.

Thank you GrahamS!
I'll have to try all you said here, because I've never done things like this before..... I hope I will let you know soon the result!

You know what?.... GrahamS!...

It works just fine! This is the first ultralight that I've seen in FSF9 and that takes off after some 150 meters or so, and it looks great, the way it climbs now.. just like real! It also made a perfect landing, with short turnings and bankings when on the way of heading for the runway, the landing was not too short, it was nice to watch at... almost perfect!
This ultralilght can take off and land at any ULM-airfield, even the shortest ones now.
Thank you for this excellent idea of yours!
