• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

Hi

I have the Milviz MD530f for fsx and have noticed that if I use real weather themes the engine struggles to start and the n2 gauge doesn't climb.
I have tracked the issue down to wnd speed . If I have local bad weather if I go into weather settings and change the wind speed to nothing the engine starts up.

Is there a parameter in the air file the can be adjusted to correct the issue

Pure guesswork, but windspeed or bad weather might be associated with lower air pressure.
I do know that, depending on the altitude of the airfield, I sometimes need to adjust my throttle/mixture settings so's the engine will start and tick over reliably, so that may be another factor to consider, rather than jiggling with the air file and possibly introducing other factors.

Thanks for the reply.. I have done some experimenting and used a .air file form the freeware nemeth bros MD500e for fsx and re named it MD530F.
That has fixed the issue with the engine starting in bad weather.

Hi Reco.

I would recommend restoring the original Milviz .air file... I'm "guessing" because I'm not familiar with that Milviz aircraft, but the vast majority of experienced developers adjust their .air files according to a multitude of systems; changing it to just any other file can cause even worse problems.
Now, regarding what you originally mentioned... Real aircraft can have trouble starting their turbines if the wind is against the exhaust gases; a tailwind. Remember that these aircraft start by injecting compressor gases from the APU to spin the turbine, strong tailwind will reduced this effect... It is more noticeable in some config of Engines+APU than others. For example, the real IL96-300 does this every time it starts, and it's normal in its case... It's possible that Milviz replicated this behavior realistically; again, I'm just guessing... but if that's the case, try orienting the aircraft into the wind during towing and then starting the engines under those favorable conditions. If you decide to do it, please let us know how it goes; it's very interesting.

I'm still using the replaced air file with good results

Do you have automixture turned on in your settings at all? That might play a factor on complex aircraft/helos. Just a thought.

It appears the issue is related to the entry in the main rotor section under

main rotor friction:
In the Milviz MD530f it is set to 0.000213

Looking through other helicopter .air files
the main rotor section is set to 0.041300 even the Milviz UH1 is set to 0.041300
The dodosim 206 is also set to 0.041300
