Hello guys,

I made some custom bump maps for the Captain Sim's 767 using the nVidia Tools for Photoshop.
The problem is that with my custom bump maps, the aircraft appears too dark and shiny.

What is wrong here?

I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter!

I am having the same problems with my textures. I think it is something to do with how I made my alpha channel. I have not solved the problem yet. But when I do I will let you know what I have found.

Thanks, Kris:)

Thanks Kris,

I will be searching for a solution and should I find one, I will post it here. ;)

Hi Peter!

OK, I have solved my problem! I have found that my normal map plugin for Gimp was not working correctly. I re-installed an updated version of the plugin and everything started working very nicely in FSX. I also found that my plugin that I was using for exporting .dds file formats was not working correctly as well.

So if you use Gimp you need to update your plugins. Also make sure that you are not using the bump map plugin. Use the normal map plugin for Gimp.

I hope this helps you with your problem.

Thanks, Kris:)

If you are using the Nvidia plugin for Photoshop then it needs some manipulation before it can be used in FSX. After generating the normal map with the plugin you need to go to the channels and make alterations as follows.
In the RGB select and copy the Red channel then paste it into the Alpha channel. Then paint the Red channel solid black RGB 0,0,0. Go to the Green channel and invert it, (Ctrl - I) then go to the Blue channel and paint it Solid White RGB 256,256,256. That's it and save the file as a DDS.

Thank you so much Paul!

I tried something very similar but I think your solution is much more professional ;)

The problem is gone!

Many many thanks for this ;)
