• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aircraft door

i like the idea of having a handle on the outside of a door. and i was wondering how i could make one. i like the emb 170 handle, which could probably be used for airbus. and a bae 146 which has a section of the door, where the handle is, that comes out and turns when you press shift + E.

Just think - there is no such thing as modelling a "door handle" - if it responds to the door animation, it's a door.

Basically, your door handle is a "door" part that operates in the first xx frames, followed by the animation of the door itself, for the rest of the frames. So, if you have 100 frames, say the first 10 or 20 frames go to the operation of the door handle, during which the door itslef is key framed from 0-20 to stay put. Actual door animation is from key frames 20-100.

Your handle is a child of the door part.

Qualified yes. If you already have a "door" specified, then it's all set. Remember, you're not creating a second "door", it's all one door - for aircraft.cfg purposes.

Your animated "door" assembly consists of the parent door, and the child door-handle

so generally, how would i do it? would i copy something from the EMB 170 aircraft.cfg, or would i have to create some text in the cfg file?
is there also a way to create airstairs for the aircraft, like the 737 series?

What modelling program are you using?

You 'll always need a "seed" aircraft from which to modify the appropriate files.

In essence, yes, you can copy the entry from another aircraft.cfg.

As far as airstairs, it's more complicated (more parts to model), but it's the same principle.

well...nothing. i havnt really done this before, the only editing i have done is mucking around with cfg files making 777s fly up to 100000 ft at thousands of knots, and aircraft repainting.

<sigh>

Then forget everything I've posted. As this is the modelling forum, I was assuming that you were modelling an aircraft.

What you want to do - "add a handle" - cannot be done to an existing, compiled aircraft in the sim. That animation has to be modelled in.

Tha sibh.

that feum gmax/FSDS

(Sorry for the grammar, I'm not that good at languages)

which one is the best/easiest? are there any tutorials on building aircraft? what language do u speak?

1. The best/easiest ... is a matter of hot contention...

I am (to no one's surprise) a fan of FSDS (commercial product, sold by Abacus PUblishing in the US, and through other distributors in the UK and Europe). It is a dedicated flightsim modelling program that can create a true FS-X model, and with certain add-on utilities *FSDSxTweak* and some manual editing of text files, can also add the 'eye-candy' that is now de rigeur in FS-X models.

gmax, however, is the more powerful modelling program and up to now has been supported by the Microsoft/ACES team with specific modelling tools to create the FS-X model. Also, it is free (it comes in the FS-X Deluxe version dvd)

Caveat: To use the FS-X SDK, you need to have bought the FS-X DELUXE version....

I speak Spanish, and Standard American English (somewhat adulterated by years of working with Scots, Geordies, a motley collection of Englishmen, and with good ol' folks from the American South). LAtely, though, I catch myself saying words in Hinglish, Venezuelan SPanish, ... Mon dieu! Je ne knows pas anymore what I spreche!

what about FS2004? if i create an aircraft, would i still be able to repaint it using paint.net and DXTBmp?

is there any way to get more doors on the aircraft like project opensky's 737, only door 1L opens, but would like to have 2L or the service doors to open so it will look more realistic with Aerosoft's AES.
