• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Aircraft Effects Question

I have downloaded 2 military aircraft jets that are FSX Updated. On one, I have to press the "L" key to activate the afterburners. On another, nothing makes the afterburner work.
Is there anything I can do to correct this? Using a CH Flight Sim yoke, I would like to use the throttle to make the afterburners kick in and out as they should.
Using XP with FSX.
Thanks

If the two aircraft were made by different modellers, you're comparing apples to potatoes.

There's no real good answer to give you.

It could be that the builder did not create his model for afterburners to come "on" with any key. For that matter, do afterburners even work in your model (for example, with the full throttle).

You would need to read whatever documentation came with both models to see what works and what doesn't. There are no standardized "rules" for specific things like afterburners and such.

Thank you for the reply; although not what I was hoping to hear. This is what I do not understand about the FSX updates. The same aircraft in FS9 has working afterburners. But when updated to FSX-afterburners do not work properly as they did in FS9. How can this one item be overlooked on military jet updates?? Is it something to do with FSX itself, or would this require a completely new aircraft for FSX just to have the afterburners work right?
Thanks again....

Most Afterburner effects are controled with a XML gauge to activate them when the throttle is at 90% or the N1 is at a certain percentage... They need to be assigned to a unique light type (1, 2, 3 and so on...) or to the smoke system...
