• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Aircraft preview problem

Couldn't think of a snappier title, sorry.

I use MCX (v29/11/19) and have done so for years. For first time I saw this preview of Ants Airplanes Tiger Moth Pro. I emailed Ant directly and he couldn't shed any light on it. He suggested I ask here.

Screens:

and this one from the camera top view.

I've tried using the Material Editor which does get rid of some of the pilot (that's him blocking the view) but not enough to make a difference.

I would appreciate a pointer if I've missed something.

Cheers, Ron

Hi,

Looking at the pictures it seems some parts are displaced as well.

For which FS version was the aircraft designed?

Golly! That was quick. It's Ant's latest for P3Dv4.5 with PBR

As part of my trying to sort it out myself, I selected the PBD from the drop down in Material Editor but MCX seized up on me.

Hello:

Anthony recently mentioned that he still uses FSDS v3.5x, and that he is now writing his own code for implementation of PBR Material mapping in the MDL definition XML code used for creating a *.X file.

Perhaps Arno and Anthony might confer on this work-flow to identify the best way to troubleshoot this issue, and also provide some procedural MDLDefinition XML PBR coding guidelines for others who continue to develop aircraft and scenery objects using FSDS ? :scratchch

That's encouraging Garry. Apparently other painters are doing paints for the Tiger Moth. I was always under the impression that they all used MCX but I can't see how they can with it like this.

Without having some kind of model to test what is going on, I think it will be hard to see why this specific plane does not load correctly in MCX. In general FSX/P3D MDL files don't have much issues with displaced parts, that's usually with FS2004 or older aircraft MDL files.

Can you show a bit of the log file when loading the aircraft? That might tell me something more.

I can see that this is a FSX/P3D style MDL file from the log. Which would be suspected as it has PBR materials.

So not sure why MCX shows the displaced parts in that case. There must be something in the structure of this specific model that gives issues.

Like I said before, without having some object to test what is going on there is probably not much I can do.

Just a thought, did you change any of the optimize settings?

Like I said, I've used MCX for ages so I may have done but I can't remember doing so. If I was a betting man, I'd say no, I haven't. To be fair I use it just to paint liveries. It essential for getting lines to join up. :) Don't take up any more of your time on this, I'll just paint something else.
Thanks very much for giving it a shot though. A rare quality, someone who gives a ..... :D
EDIT:
Ping! Ant does a freeware/demo model HERE
I friend uses it and tried to paint it using MCX and gets exactly the same results.

Thanks, I'll have a look at the demo model.

Hi,

I downloaded the demo model. But for some reason this model takes a very long time to load. When I load other aircraft MDL files of around the same size in MB it goes much quicker. So I think there must be something special to the structure of this model. I'll try to have another look later.
