• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Airfield

Hi Guys.....

I need to make several FSX short airfields, mostly grass around 2000 feet in lenght for a project. I would like to do them in
FSDS 3.5 since I just want to place them all over. I have done some but I do not get a fine surface from the .bmp´s I have done, plus they "glitter" from far away.......any suggestions??

hello

unless you need to create a slopy runway, you don't have to create an object, and no need to use FSDS (or GMax).
it's rather a terrain problem, and a tool such as SBuilder (and polygons) would be more accurate.

I would second that. If possible use the terrain tools like SBuilderX and the XML style airports of FSX Planner or ADE.

Making them as a scenery MDL file is most likely going to give you more trouble than it solves. Although for sloped runways and things like that it can be necessary.

Thank you Gents....I use Sbuilder which is just great all the time and am happy with it....but I have seen other fields that look much more "unique" in some addons that am sure are not made that way and would like to learn a more "freely" way of making them.......Cheers.:)

Hello

What kind of project do you intend to create?
Modelling tools are used in some addons : altiports in France (see http://www.vf-air.com/FSX2.htm) or for landing platforms.

If you just need a slopy runway, think to use SBuilderX, with polygon and the "Flatten" tag.
In FSX, "flatten" can create an even, plane surface, not necessarily horizontal; for instance, you can create a rectangular polygon ABCD, with vertex A and B at 1000ft elevation, and C and D at 990ft.

However, remember that afcad style items (runways, ...) will not work (they use horizontal objects); you can just use start locations at different elevations at both end of runway, or parkings). So, no AI traffic can be used.

So, you have to choose between more realistic slopy runway, or AI traffic.

In some cases, I had the chance to have two runways, one with important slope, and other nearly horizontal; so, I could create a "partial" afcad for the horizontal one, and keep the slopy runway (FMSE - Betroka).

Hi Pierrot....
Thank you my friend. Yes I think I will, for now, take the route of using SbuilderX with its polygons, some will be flat and some will be flat with some slope at the ends...Oh, I am making a "Flight Adventure" out in the barren lands of Chile in a 1930´s setting when "airfields" were beginning to be....even today in those latitudes some fields scare the daylights out of many hot shot pilots. We´ll see how it develops........Mercy.
