• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v2 Airport ground lighting

I'm reading there are some problems in P3D with custom ground lightning using old techniques when you make custom high detail ground polys in gmax/3DSmax. What is the best/commonly used technique to make ground lightning that works in P3D when you make custom high detail ground polys in gmax?

If I were to make HD groundpoly's with these tools, I guess I would use night textures and light up the area's to be lit.

But can ground lights work like in FSX? Isn't there a problem that custom ground polys exclude default lights (runway, taxiway, apron,..) and there is some problem with light effects in P3D?

Well, ground poly do exclude the default lights, but what are we talking about? The lights or the ground splash of those lights?
The ground splash is dealt with the way I described or by using an effect instead.
The light objects (e.g. light posts, runway edge lights, etc.) are models with attached effects.
In FSX you can use Don Grovestine's AFLT tool (or is it ALFT? No, it is the Airfield Light Toolbox:)) and that works great in FSX over ground poly but not in P3D.
There are some threads in this forum that cover your\our problem but, in as far as I know, no real alternative has come up yet but the effects option.
And I sure hope that someone tells me that I am wrong and that there is a viable solution.

Yes, I was talking about light objects, sorry for the confusion. I guess I misunderstood the problem. So, light objects with effects attached do work in P3D only without light splash on the ground? Ok, that's doable, only much more work. Thanks for clearing that for me.
