• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Airport Lighting Issues

Hey everyone!!!

I'm pretty close to completing MVY (Martha's Vineyard Airport) but am running into a few snags that I hope y'all can help me with.

I'll be posting a few pictures to go along with my explanation just so you can visualize what's going on.

1st Issue: Taxiway Light Rows (that I've custom placed) show up in DevMode while working on the project, but after building the package and placing in the Community folder and restarting the sim, only a few taxiway lights show up.

TXY1.png is from the DevMode editor while working on the airport. Notice all the taxiway lights are in place and show up correctly.

TXY2.png shows what it looks like after the file is closed and we are pulling from the Community folder data (which contains the latest updated information *even after sim restart this happens*). Notice that there are SOME taxiway lights, but not as many as I'd placed by hand. There is a huge disparity between what I'm placing in DevMode and what's actually appearing in the sim when loaded.

2nd Issue: Runway edge lights missing for the last 1/3 of crossing runway. In DevMode and out of DevMode makes no difference here. It's like the sim just doesn't want to populate the runway edge lights after the two runways cross. The main runway 6-24 does NOT have this issue. It's only with 15-33.

I've attempted deleting and re-adding the runway multiple times. I wonder if it's because of the layering between the crossing runways OR maybe because of the taxiway placement. I would add custom placed lights, but have no clue what or how to do that. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

RWY1.png: Looking at the last 1/3 of rwy 15/33. As you can see, the runway edge lighting is noticeably absent. (At the end is taxiway lighting).

RWY2.png: This image is looking towards the 1st 3/4's of the runway. As you can see the lighting continues til the runway intersection.

RWY3.png: Here is a look down the runway as a whole. As you can see there's a definitive stop after the runway intersection.

Thank you for any support that you can provide!!! After this, all I'll need to do is incorporate some parking lots, a few access roads, and perimeter fencing!!!

Regards,

Z

Hi there,

It seems that if you make a light row with taxi lights then the sim shows them every certain distance regardless how many "dots" you make when you do the process. The solution that worked for me is to make one light row for every taxi light you wanna place.

Check the image.

Thanks for the reply!

Figured it out shortly after my OP and, just like you said, had to hand place light rows 1 light at a time. I also stumbled upon the ability to select numerous light row lights and duplicate them and place them somewhere else. That saved some time, but it was still pretty annoying. They should really fix that. Otherwise, why do a “light row system” if you’re not going to show however many lights that you place in that row????

So, I built on top of the existing airport layout, so the grass textures were already included. You can also add grass textures by drawing out a ramp, going into materials, selecting asobo ground, and finding/selecting the grass texture that you want. Then go into properties for the ramp and swap out the material texture. This will swap out the taxiway asphalt textures with grass textures. I did do this for a few areas, but the majority of the grass was already provided.
Hope that helps!!!

thanks yes i had done the apron grass/ground thing and it gave me grass looking flat texture only :{

Yes, unfortunately, I've found the ground underneath a texture kind of controls what's on top, especially for grass. So, even if I had an apron of grass and apply a ground grass texture, since I'm building my airport on top of an existing airport that has a satellite photo under it apparently, I don't know a way of suppressing that photo. I liken it to our inability to delete roads and their lights either. The SDK and tools for modifying the underlying geometry are sooooooo not done yet.
