• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

As I go along, I am trying to find challenges to teach myself to model better and better. I'm not sure if it's the best thing to work on more than one project at once, but I seem to have passed a plateau and am picking things up a little easier as the modeling goes. I want to get beyond 'how do you do this' stage and get into some serious modeling that tests me.

So tonight I wanted to see how far I could go with the one piece fuselage and am kind of happy with my results. There's more I can do with it, but for now it'll do.

Laird Solution...

I extruded the wing struts from the top and bottom wing, then welded the two parts of the strut together, which seems really simple now that I write it...

This was also good practice for mirroring sides...

Toss on a Meshsmooth...

See Bill, I do take your advice. Exporting early and often. Still a problem with the scale thing and it's backwards again.

Scale is easy to solve. Set the default in Max/GMax to "1 unit = 1 meter"...

Direction is likewise easy to solve. When viewing the model in the Left Viewport, make sure the nose of the aircraft is facing to the left! :D

Or you look at the Top-View and the nose of the Aircraft look to the top.

Yeah, I figured out the direction thing. It just seems easier to model pointing down, is all. :D

It's a lot easier to use Meshsmooth if you model with it in mind from the start. If you keep a Meshsmooth modifier on top of the stack, you can turn it on and off as you go to check you work too. Just remember, model as low poly as you can because MS automatically doubles the number of polys you have.
