• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

I've done it many times, but it's been a while- so of course I can't do it. It's not working. I'm missing a step somewhere. Here goes-

Image of a bell- 256x256 bmp
pulled it into dxtbmp, sent to editor (Paint Shop Pro)
Painted everything black escept the bell.
Saved.
Back in dxtbmp refresh after edit button-went to alpha- create alpha - black

My alpha window shows black and white, main window shows the bell with the black around it.
Chose preview- tranparency- Nothing but the bell shows. ok so far it seems.
Saved, chose 32bit extended 8-888 or whatever it's called.

In FSDS now. I call up a thin box.
Texture I choose my bell. It shows up with green background.
Apply this to both sides of the box.

left-right-top-bottom I choose any part of the green of the same bmp (bell)

Looks fine in preview pane- bell with green (as it shows in FSDS- knowing that is normal.

Save- compile mdl. add to library with ex scenery mgr.

I go to my location in FS9 and place it.

NO BELL!!!!! Just a default skinny box! Free pizza and all the beer you can drink if you can solve this one. (maybe) :) Bob

Neil- Ver 3.0. I tried the same in 3.5.1- same results.

Found a know bmp with alpha in it already. Applied this in FSDS 3.0, compiled and place. Looked fine.

Tried another bmp and opened it with dxtbmp. Sent to editor. Editor is PSP ver 10.

Used magic wand then paint brush to color background black. Black was- r-0, g-0, b-0
Saved but wanted to save under the filename norm.bmp. I thought this might be the problem so I also saved as... same filename as was brought into PSP. overwrote.

Back in DXTBMP refreshed after editor then choose Alpha (black) and then refreshed the alpha window... the little one and saved under extended 32 bit888-8. Went to FSDS 3.0 and placed the new bmp on a box. All looked good in FSDS. Compiled and went to place it after adding to a library. Same thing again... No bmp, no texture just a default box.

Redid all of the above using green 0, 255, 0. and repeated the process in FSDS. Background looked black still. Ran the above process and still default box.

BTW- in FSDS I did clear any and all bmps before adding the new one I made.

Now- some bmps show up in FSDS with green alpha. Some black. The one I did whether I did it in black or green shows black, regardless. :banghead:Maybe I'm not holding my tongue right!

As stated before a friend of our on here, John D sent me an alpha'd bmp I sent him to do. He says it works fine on his machine. It didn't on mine.

Is my process wrong? Maybe DXTBMP program is corrupted? Maybe FSDS won't show alphas done on this machine? Maybe something wrong in my machine in genral. I might try doing a restore point to see if something got messed up. Bob BTW- thanx for your response.
