• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Animated landable surfaces

Is it possible to create a landable surface that is animated?

What I want to do is create a helipad on the water that bobs up and down.

Just my 2 cents worth

Don't know that much about it but a friend of mine over at Hovercontrol did create an animated landable surfce for FSX. He use 3D Studio Max to do it. He built a simple barrel type raft with a flat plane on top. It rises, rock and rolls with the wave. Kinda fun to land on. Then jump into spot view and watch your helo ride the raft. I don't know what all he did to accomplish this, but it apparently can be done. He goes by the name ALFA at Hovercontrol.

You answered my immediate question.

THe "platform" is NOT animated and does not have any animated part on it. It is simply located on the water, so it moves according to the "motion" of the "waves".

I believe that the SDK say that the platform cannot have an animated part/animation as part of the the hierarchy. Say, you cannot have a "folding" platform .....

I don't think objects will move with waves, so it sounds like there must be some animation in there then. I guess simplest would be to just try if a simple translation animation works or not. The SDK can always have some minor bugs :).

Maybe scenery is different?

I note that a floatplane will "bob" with the "waves", so I thought that there would be a similar effect on a "floating" object.

No, only aircraft will do that. Scenery will just stay at a fixed position. I'll give a simple animation a try though, I'll report back soon :).

Hi,

I made a platform and gave it a simple translation animation. That seems to work fine, although at the end when the animation jumps back to the start it looks a bit weird. But the aircraft was moving up with the platform in the animation. So it seems that kind is possible.
