• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Animated object with crash detection

I am building an entry gate that opens with the Com2 radio. I would like to add a crash box (crash detection) to it also, but I can’t seem to get the two working together. Is there a way or is this just a limitation. This scenry object is for FS9.

How I am attempting it:

-Build gate in FSDS3 then add key frames (tick 18) and export an .X file

-With “makemdl” I add the crash detection and check box for add animation, then compile.

-With “CAT” animation tool I enable animation trigger, Nav2 frequency and 1200h, then compile.

-Place gate with EZscenery.

The gate will open but no crash detection.
If I bypass the animation I have crash detection but no animation.
Can’t seem to get both working at the same time.

Thanks for any help on this question.

Hi Jay,

I am not familiar with specific FSDS things, but it should be possible to have both animation and a crashbox. However the crashbox is static, so it will not depend on the animation. Therefore I think it is better not to have a crashbox if you want to be able to drive in.

Thank you Arno for your response, it is greatly appreciated.
You say that the “crashbox is static”… I would assume then that if an animated gate has a crashbox that the crashbox would not move with the gate when the gate opens, to let the aircraft through? Adding a crashbox to an opening gate may not be the way to approach this problem then.

Let me ask this:
What if I placed in front of the gate a separate static object (textured with all alpha to make it all transparent) and a crash box, would there be a way to exclude this object with the com2 radio? Or can it be made to be present (with crashbox) or not be present (with out crashbox) by using the com2 radio? Or, to exclude it, or to include it by any other means?

Now that I think about it, it seems that to add an object with crashbox (after placing it) to have it active you need to reboot FS9, is this correct? If so, then it is not possible to have a crashbox be active and inactive with in one flight. If this is the case then there may not be a way to keep aircraft from going through the gate when it is closed, and letting them pass through when it is open.

Screen shot of animated gate. Both sides of gate have a crash box; it would be nice to be able to stop aircraft at the gate when it is closed.

I think I answered my own question with some more basic simple testing.
Evidently, when you place a conditioned object with a crashbox to show on one particular day, the object will only show on that particular day, but the crashbox will stay active on all days even though you cannot see the object.

So I guess you cannot condition a crashbox, is this the case?
Thanks

Hi Jay,

That's what I expected indeed. As far as I know you can not put a condition on the crashbox as well.
