• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Animation stops

Hi everybody,
Since I "upgrated" to SP2 I discover a lot of strange things in my FSX... The last is that my animated whales stop to swim at a certain distance. I made a whale MDL and his animation simulate breathing. Then I made a AI object with it, It works fine under SP1 but not under SP2. I recompiled and the animation continues to stop at a distance.
Someone have an idea?
Thanks.

Hi,

You made it as a FSX MDL file?

Yes Arno, I use XToMDL.

I check an other animation (a radar on a AI ship) and it works far away. But my animated AI whale stops inside less then 1 mile. The same animated whale works fine at a distance when used like simple scenery object (not AI).

Strange but this appends after I made controlled animation with MakeMDL. I use distance trigger...

I'm not an expert in this thing, but if I can offer a makeshift solution...
In the program you're using to make your animation, in relation to the distance trigger, can you inverse it? because apparently, the distance trigger says "animation works when distance is x meters or greater". You can try inversing that so it says "animation works when distance is x meters or less."

If that isn't possible, decrease the distance trigger to almost zero. I believe that should work?

I mean : in FSDS 3.5.1, I make controlled animation using MakeMDL. After I switch to XtoMDl to make my animated whales. I am just wondering if there can be interaction between MakeMDL and XtoMDL.

Some distance triggers don't work with FSX BGL files (for example, MDL Tweaker only works with FS9 BGL files).

Hope this helps,
