• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Animations Question

This weekend I'm close to finishing part of the model that requires some advanced animations.

I'm almost finished the chain gun sections of Airwolf, which have sliding out parts. I also want the doors for the Ammo cover bays to open too to reveal the ammunition as well.

Now here's my question - do you assign animations first before merging the parts in GMAX or do you do that afterwards?

Thanks for everyone's patience with me - this is my first huge project....:D

I wouldn't do anything that depends on FSX Tools until those parts are in the actual "production scene." A lot of that added "stuff" won't copy over during a Merge operation.

You can do the keyframe animations of course, because that's all native GMax "stuff..." :D

Thanks for the help Bill - appreciate the info.

I'll probably wind up modeling the whole thing to be on the safe side and then asign all animations after that. It's easy enough to get the parts manufactured now - I just LOVE GMAX!

Now, John - you DO realize that you're setting yourself up for Ron to "assign" you to do one of those "back burner" projects, right?

:)

Don't mind one bit! :D

Gotta learn as you go - every day you learn something new as they say! :D.

P.S. - They got me in the developing aspect of FS, though I am just a livery artist for them, some of my work graces the Citation X 2.0 release.....will always be thankful for that chance to get with a good reputable company.

Thanks! They made sure it would be. I did the N199ES N505ES and the 5000th Citation in that pack.

One of my favorite jets - I learned to master that one in all kinds of conditions....:D
