• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Another taxiwaysign question

Guys,

I know I already asked several questions about taxiwaysigns but there is still one thing that is not completely clear to me....
I'm almost finished with a complete upgrade of Amsterdam Airport (correct parkingcodes, parking type, parking size, jetways, gate numbers, aprons, taxiways, crosswind runways etc etc etc) and it almost looks like the real airport.

The last thing to do are adjustments to the taxiwaysigns.
I know I have to work with Exclusion rectangles to remove the signs but eventhough I haven't changed a thing about the standard signs a lot of the signs show up twice in FSX right now...

At the same time some of the signs show up in the way Microsoft intended them to be...

Have I done something wrong or is this caused by adjusting the taxiways?
Any suggestions on solving the problem or should I spent several evenings on creating exclusion rectangles and replacing the signs?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need to create an exclusion rectangle to remove the taxiway signs if you have not done that. What you are seeing in the above shots is probably two signs in both, but on the second one, the two signs are in the exact same place, and in the first shot they are in slightly different places, allowing you to see that there are actually two signs there.

You don't need to create one exclusion rectangle for each taxiway sign. Depending on the layout of the airport, two or three exclusion rectangles covering all the taxiway signs should work. Make sure specify that the exclusion rectangle only excludes taxiway signs and not all objects though.

Russell,

Either I'm doing something wrong or FSXPlanner doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
I've made a exclusion rectangle (just a small one to try) and recompiled but the 'double' signs are still there. See screenshot.

In this thread http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5822 MoToCrOsS986 reports the same problem.

Are we doing something wrong here and if so, what?

Thanks again for any reply.

If your exclusion rectangle doesn't include the master taxiway sign - the one from which all others are referenced then your exclusion rectangle will not work. If you have another exclusion rectangle before this one in the XML which does not also exclude taxiway signs then it will not work anyway.

What GrahamS says above is correct. So you may want to try drawing a larger rectangle that covers the entire airport and see if that works.

Russell,

First of all thank you for this great developing tool.

Since it appears that a large taxiwaysign exclusion rectangle will be common for many airports. And this will mask the selection of other exclusions or objects that may be within the taxiwaysign exclusion.

In my airport I have the taxiwaysign exclusion that covers most of the airport. I also have some secenery objects exclusions that it covers and I cannot select them.

I sure hope I made this somewhat clear.

Would it be possible to have the taxiwaysign exclusion seperatly displayable?

Yes, that's clear - and a good point. We'll look into the best way of accomplishing that.

Graham wasn't this one of the issues that was fixed with SP1? Or maybe it has not been fixed. I have not specifically tested exclusion behavior post-SP1.

That is, unfortunately, still true.

That was fixed by SP1.

Thanks for the clarification, Doug, I will have to be more specific next time..LOL I find a lot of users are still not upgraded and really we need every question to be accompanied by the version in use.

Doug, may I ask, where or how one can find the master taxiway sign? Decompile the airport and find the first mentioned taxiway sign?

If you have a big enough exclusion rectangle, knowing which sign is the "master sign" is a non-issue.

I eliminate all stock taxiway signs by making the exclude cover the entire airport.
