• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

API Scasm with FSX ???

Hello

It's my first thread in this forum...
I did the French airports sceneries of "Scenes Regions Nord".
I began this work during 2002 and the majority of them was compiled SCASM with EOD and Groundmaker.

Now I use Gmax but I would be very disappointed to rebuild all with the xml format, I think it will be a crazy work...

So I installed the FSX demo and did some tests. I was happy to see that my EOD or FSDS v2 macros located in the Caribbean was read by FSX :D .

However the night textures (bmp or DXT”_lm”) are not visible  . I don't understand why and I continue to test.

So if you did some tests with macros Scasm and FSX I'm very interested by your comments...

Thanks by advance

Christian

Isn't the API macros that cause sensible frame drops in FS9 ?
Cause if that's the case in FSX maybe a redesign could be neccesary anyway specialy if that the new XML format will be more powerfull

yes. The frame drops is sensible with a large scenery. But the most of my sceneries represent small airfields and in this case the drop are no significant (non significant to rebuild with Gmax..;) ).

Yes, I agree for the large sceneries, but not before I will be retired... hi

Then I guess it make sense keeping the old models. :)

I didn't have the chance to try FSX, unfortunately, as I don't want to install XP SP2 :duck:

I don't want to install XP SP2

Microsoft will stop supporting SP1 at the end of October if I recall correctly. After that there will be no security updates for SP1.

Hi,

we spend as long as possible using SCASM Libraries. And we also made small Airfields in southern Germany. But we found out that it makes a big difference using XML libraries. So maybe it makes sense to start redesigning. Your customers will be glad.

Your night textures might not work, because the use of nighttestures ist done completely different in XML. In SCASM you defined the season or nightlighting at the poly where you put your texture to. IN XML you define the Texture in a TextureMap in the beginning. Here you have to decide if you want to use Night or season Textures...

I still did not find the time to try some things in the demo :scratchch

The second FSX demo shows the night textures.
But it's not yet perfect. Its let see through the FSX objects which are located behind.

Let us the final FSX version... hi
