• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Does anyone know of a really nice set of jetways for fs9/X. Preferably animated on call? And/Or, does anyone know of a nice (again, preferably animated) set of large aircraft jetways, with the dual walkways for 2 door operation?

Any help greatly appreciated...

- Greg

Hi Greg,

For this it will matter a lot which FS version is your target. For FSX it is relatively easy to make a jetway to automatically docks to the door, if you are using the skin and bones techniques. For FS2004 this is not possible, so a nice animated jetway needs to have the different aircraft positions sort of hard coded.

Having set that, I haven't seen my jetway objects for download for both versions :). For the Schiphol project I worked on we made them specially for each gate position. This limits reuse as well. I guess many developers are in that situation.

Thanks Arno,
I currently only use FSX...and am currently only designing for FSX. So that is my big want... :)

I figured the nice ones would be scenery specific...and that sucks for those of us that are not model makers and don't have one available.. Trust me, if I were one, I would be modeling every single part of my airports myself... There would be no stock or 3rd party parts. But alas, that is not the case.

When you say yours and others are created specifically for each gate position, what do you mean by that, if I may ask? With numbers and such? Because that is what I would love to have. Or do you mean size specific for only certain planes? Because that would not pose a problem either.. I guess what I am saying, is I would love to have anything you have created if it is not ONLY allowed to be in that other software... :)

The ones I made were for FS2004 (I still need to update them for FSX). In FS2004 each gate position had a specific MDL object with the animation tuned so that it would line up exactly with an airport parked at that position. So for example the stop distance for the nose wheel was taken into account. So these gates can basically only be used at that position.

For FSX it should be better though, as the IK animation will handle most of these variables, so the gates can be more general.

I guess it would be a good idea if I released my gates as a library after I do the update :).

That would be very cool Arno!!!!

I was just looking at Google Earth of Charles De Gualle airport... I must say, they have some really odd looking ones. Many are doubles, but then some actually connect to ones at the next gate..or two!!!! Very interesting to look at. Now I get to go navigate them in person. hehe

Oh... one more thing.. Is it possible in FSX to have the gates turn to either direction? Or do they only always go the one direction? I ask become in some areas and for several reasons, it would be better to have them connect to the starboard side of the plane instead of the normal port side.

I think you can setup the IK animation to do both directions, but I never tried.
