• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ASM tweek Rotate to user issue

Question: for lights

I created a light in Gmax and placed it in the same mdl as my main light object. I put two conditions on the light box. The first condition (Nolight 2, 4, ) is only for use at dusk\night\dawn and it works great. The second condition (rotate to user) also works, but instead of rotating to the users aircraft view point, it rotates away from the aircraft, placing the object at 0. This does not do anything and is not making any difference. Is there a setting that can correct this situation?

Hi Donald,

Maybe you can explain a bit more what you mean with adding a light. If you mean a BGL_LIGHT lightpoint, then rotating to the user makes no difference, since the light shines in all directions already.

BGl Light

Hi, Arno

The light box is located next to the taxi light object in one mdl file so the box or object needs to rotate to the user aircraft so the light box or bgl light is allways in view to the aircraft. The way my light is rotating to the user aircraft the light is allways behind thae Taxi light object, so I need to change the rotation of the light box so it is allways in view. any ideas. maybe a number change in the code? I included the code so you can see what I am refering to.

Hi,

Sorry, I still don't get it. It seems you have a 3D model of the light. So why would you want to rotate it to the user? That is usually used when you have just a flat texture for the light. Rotating the object sounds like overkill to me.

object on the light

hey Arno,

The light is actually on the object the reason to rotate it to the user is so it is always in view. Flytampa did this very thing in there seattle package. I liked the technique and thought it would be a nice unique feature.

Hi,

I see. I think you need to make sure that the light is not in the middle then. It is the middle point that it is rotated around. So if you move it on the negative Y axis a bit, I think it should always be in front.

Arno,

by the negative Y axis, do mean off to one side of center? if so I'll give that a try and let you know what the result was.

Yes, that's what I meant. I hope I remembered the axis correctly.

hi, Arno,

off setting the light box on the -Y axis worked perfectly the light now rotates towrds the aircraft view point instead of away from the aircraft view point. Thank you so much for your help.
