• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Attach effects/Conditions

Hi,

A couple of questions...

I am trying to attach a smoke effect to a chimney and after searching the forums I have gathered that I'm doing it correctly. Create a dummy object and attach the effect. However it does not show up in FSX - is there a way to preview the effect to make sure it would actually work?

Second is, does FSX still support FS9 object conditions? For example, I only want an object to show up during winter - can that be done in FSX?

Thanks in advance,
Kobbe

When you say dummy object, do you mean an object of the dummy type in GMax or just a cube that acts as a dummy? I always use the last one and that works fine.

If you want to see if the attachpoint actually ended up in the MDL file, you could try to load the MDL file in ModelConverterX and see if the attachpoint is visible.

Yes, but only when you use the FS2004 MDL format. Due to the backwards compatibility they still work. Such conditions are not possible with the FSX MDL format.

Thanks for the info Arno.

I am using a cube as a "dummy object" and attaching the effect to it. Not sure if it operates similar to a platform, but the cube does not disappear when I attach the effect to it. When placed in FSX, the cube is still visible, with no effect.

Hi,

The cube should disappear in that case, so it looks like something went wrong in the attachtool script.

Fixed the problem - sort of.

Used the "Create new attach point" option instead of "Attach to selected geometry" and for the seasonal condition I used the season option, instead of trying to define a range of days. The split range (350-365, 1-60) caused a problem I think.

Thanks for the help.
