• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX AttachTool problem

Hi,

Have problem to use the AttachTool, despite the guidance: :(

[QUOTEIf you are using an fx attachpoint, make a copy of the attachpoint polygon before applying the attach.

Place Dawn and Dusk conditions on one attachpoint

On the other use the Night and Day conditions.][/QUOTE]

A lot of trouble trying to set a fx_landing effect on the two triangle polygons.
Feeling stupid...

Hi,

Red a topic about effects in FSX and as I see only fsx_landing in the list of effects in AttachTool... another effect was mentioned: fsx_landing.fsx. I found this effect in a backup. But where should I put this effect now ?
Maybe this effect will work.

I cannot see any reason for making a copy.

I do it this way:

Make a plane (polygon), square or triangle shaped. I use 0,2 x 0,2 m size. Then select your plane, then open the Attach Tool. Put in a checkermark for "Effect". Then select from at LOT of effects in the rollout (Effect to attach). Finally, push the "Attach to selected geometry" button.

Cheers,

The reason for making a copy .. is that you cannot have all 4 conditions attached to the one effect.

Aha, thx for clearing that up. I normally do this stuff in the xml file, never tried several effects for one item in gmax.

Cheers,
:stirthepo

Hi,

I tried and cannot export... very weird.
Even an attach effect item in the exemple that Arno posted in the topic about attachpoint direction refuses to export. What's happening ?

Error message = crash tree calculation error.

Hi,

Found a topic posted myself in 2006... where I mentioned the crash tree error message. To solve this I placed an object nearby.
Let you know if I get the lights to work later this day.

Hi,

Till now no luck. I followed the tutorial JDhaenens wrote, but I receive error message: duplicate filename... :o
Maybe someone could post here a screenshot of the GMAX setup so that I can see what to do.

Greetz. José.

My Gmax setup consists of Gmax (installed into c:\Gmax) , the Gamepack copied to the correct folder, and the program started with the FSX_Gmax shortcut (as provided) Nothing else.

One of the great things about GMax in Windows Vista/7 is that it is not installed into the "sacred" Program Files directories ... so windows' securty features tend to leave you alone.

Hi,

Sorry, my mistake... with GMAX setup I ment the setup of polygons and/or boxes during the process attaching the effects via AttachTool in FSX.

My setup of the program GMAX = C:\GMAX, then via Gamepacks GMAX for FSX. I still run on XP and use XP. With this setup my scener of EBOS (Belgium) works very well with a file of Airport for Windows... but other simmers have troubles (FSXA) with framerates who are too low.
So I need now to rebuild a part of the scenery (remove API's, place other lights because they are lighted all day long).

Hi,

AttachTool doesn't mention anymore the effect fx_landing.
Even after editing. Put this: global thisEffectsDir = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Effects".
Can I further work or... ?

-------------------EDIT
Have the effect back in the AttachTool list.

Hi,

Found it... it is rather a question of understanding English, or the way of using words, and even nervosity. ;)

Have now light... :D

Greetz. José.

Hi,

Have light I said, but it looks like the time settings in AttachTool doesn't work at all. I wrote jdhaenens and got advice. But even that brought no solution. Has anyone who used light effects via AttachTool such problems ? During the day you shouldn't see any light, but that's not the case with me. I even saw at a certain time twoo extra lights (due to the fact that the two boxes were not at the same place... they need to stay at their places after converted to Editable mesh and a copy was made).
I think I will post my files to jdhaenens and maybe here as well.

Very bad history.

Hi,

I cannot use the fx_landing effect because that's only for aircraft and thus the lights params doesn' work for static scenery.
The only thing I can do is use the ramplighting methode from N4gix. Hope I can figure it out how to use it.

Sory Jose,

That would be incorrect.

You need to add a Visibility Tag: Lighting General, and also to attach it to a single polygon and "aim" the light effect using the axis.

You can however use fx_landinglight in static scenery objects.
