FSX Autogen Density

Is there a way to select certain objects, trees, and stop the disappearance of them when you
reduce the density slider? I have some trees I have placed in a certain places that I would like
to at least remain when reduce to the "normal" setting.

You can try changing your cfg file
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1000
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=800
You can also change these numbers

Did you by any chance (also try to) place the scenery library objects using Instant Scenery 3 (aka "IS3") ?

I am familiar with this but not sure if it would help. Especially if it is released to public. Rather not
have a .cfg tweak for user to have to do.

Yes, I understand the slider/.cfg setting to set the density. I wondered if there was a tweak in the
.xml or agn file to allow specific selected agn trees I have drawn to remain longer even if density
is reduced by user.

How is the reduction of autogen objects determined by fsx? Random, location, size, order drawn
by me in annotator...? These trees are at the end of a runway and are somewhat of an
obstacle on approach.

These trees are at the end of a runway and are somewhat of an
obstacle on approach.

If we are discussing the use of only a moderately "small" number of trees near each end of the RWYs, it may be easier to achieve your goals by placing the desired trees using Instant Scenery or another such object placement utility which utilizes the BGLComp XML-type scenery library object placement methods ...rather than the Autogen SDK (special) XML - AGN method.

In small numbers, such tree placement would not greatly impact FS run time rendering performance on most modern computers, and their individual object display properties may be easier to control as to scenery density linked to FS menu GUI slider settings.


BTW: Note that if you need to use a larger number of tree, the basic "2-crossed-plane" and "3-plane-triangle" type of tree MDLs (without extra 'horizontal canopy' faces seen in top-down view) tend to have better run time performance, whether placed via Autogen or BGLComp XML-type scenery library object placement methods.

Also, in a thread you posted in here you seem to not advise the .cfg tweak.

Yes; during scenery development and inspection, one must see what rendering of Autogen will be at the highest settings available to end users via the FSX / P3D menu slider settings.

So, IMHO, it is best to NOT use such settings except after the scenery is finished, and the end user is (optionally- and manually-) tweaking their own system ...according to their preferences and/or perceived needs.

Good observations here, you have to count with all the posibilities fsx offer. you can exclude autogen, you can place trees as library objects, and if I remember well there are must be setting options for autogen density regarding the user slider autogen control. before export the file. in this case you would have to créate two áreas with diferente options. I think Ade have this setting??¡

I knew you were going to say that, just model the tree's. That's ok too. But I will see as it goes how it appears as I continue with my arbor work.

Any suggestion on what autogen tree to use as a small fruit tree? There is a few peach farms on the south end of the airport.

FYI: There are already vast numbers of existing FS default tree types which might be ready to use, "whether placed via Autogen or BGLComp XML-type scenery library object placement methods".
