• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I/we will be using this thread to show you all our progress with this wonderful little airfield. As some of you know, I began this project many months ago, within them months of being silent I was learning new skills and also transfered over to 3DSMax9.

Polys at this time stand at 976. (Just a couple more thousand to go ;))

Below, is a "Render" from 3DSMax9, this is showing the basic ground work, later I will be adding dirt and cracks into the asphalt etc.

At this stage, here is what it looks like in FS9:

An FSX version is also being working on by my development partner.

Here is a list of things we wish to include in both version:
Animated road traffic
3D Animated people roaming the airfield (like People Flow by Orbx)
Interiors of all buildings
Animated airport information box

There is not an awful lot we can do, since this is a small airfield and barely any buildings, we are modelling every bit of detail into the buildings for a completely 3D scenery. Also, there are a few things we have in mind which we will keep secret until further in development.

Cheers,
Darren

Here is just another update, little update, but was a pain in the neck!

Here you see the grass edges, the pain was seeing through them properly, thanks to Arno and someone else (can't remember his name, sorry!) they told me how to do it, DXT1.

I will be adding a blend to this aswell, so it is a little bit but transparent

Beautiful ground work! I actually wanted to do this scenery, but I'll wait and get a copy from you :D

Work In Progress - The Tower

After almost a full day on this, I have came to a stage where I can show my progress of the model tower, please not, it is not finished yet hence "WIP". But by these screenshots you can see the amount of detail put into it. All other buildings will be modelled with the same level of detail.

I always had thought it was a cool little airport, but with me being in the US, not a real possibility of getting lots of source photos. I find little airports like that all the time in Google Earth (my #1 distraction from developing) that I want to make. Glad to see somebody doing it! And as I said, the ground work is awesome! :D

Looks great! I live about 20 miles from Leicester :)

I'm currently working on Coventry Airport, it'll be nice to have a highly detailed local airfield to fly to!

Thanks all, development is coming along slowly, since I am a one man team I'm equally spacing out different jobs liek ground work, buildings, texturing, animations, rigging, website designing whilst still having a social life with friends and family and ofcourse the girlfriend.

I have re-started the main control tower, more cleaner with lower polys, this tower should be done within 5 days. I will show you all a few renders of it later on today.

A feature has been added to this FS2004 airport, that feature is Volumetric Grass.

Cheers,
Darren

Ok, render time, be aware that this is still a work in progress and might actually be done by today. Still there are 4 hangars, 6 sheds and the old control tower to be modelled, so this is just the very near completion of the active control tower.

This model is a complete re-make of the previous screenshots with one material applied to all objects. More to come later...

Just think I actually climbed those stairs to the control tower.

Logbook Entry:
27-5-1977|C150|G-AVGM|P-1|Luton|Leicester|12:25|13:35|50mins|Test Cross Country|

From there I flew to Coventry and then back to Luton.
