• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I posted this over at Virtual VFR as it's more Aussie region based, but I thought this process might interest others...

I used the tutorial and tools mentioned on virtualvfr.com 's website tutorials about creating photo scenery... I didn't want to create a photoscenery because the data for Brisbane is really bad, but I have been wanting to create an accurate AFCAD for the airport and start adding scenery to the correct locations by designing over the template photomap then eventually pulling the photomap away and having the default FS scenery objects (now correctly located), render the final scene...

Okay this isn't 100% exciting, but it's the first step in a long development Phase to get an accurate Brisbane and South East Queensland Upgrade going...

I originally thought of this design concept about 1 year ago... I wanted to get an accurate layout of Brisbane Airport as I was working on the AFCAD I originally designed...

I originally thought of texture mapping the ERSA and AIP pictures into FS and from there go ahead and design the rest of the AFCAD...

Well with the new tools and tutorial listed on Virtual VFR I've been able to achieve Phase 1 of the new Brisbane AFCAD...

I'm using the AIP picture as a base to add the whole airport picture as a template, then I'll match some satellite scenery from the 1600x1200 picture of Brisbane from NASA as listed on the V-VFR tutorial and align it with the (known correct) ERSA picture...

That way the whole satellite image should be laid into FS at the correct location to about 1-2 feet...

Then I can just slew around the satellite imagery and add scenery and objects in their real world locations and start building a Brisbane region scenery... :)

I'm basically using this as a mapping tool, as until some high quality pictures of Brisbane come out, I'll have to rely on these images for object placement....

Tomorrow I'll try and add the rest of the runways and get them to match up with the domestic apron..., add the international and freigh aprons and if that goes well, match the NASA image and matte it to a Master Brisbane region layout...

After that, all we need to do, is make the data open source, build and implement a Brisbane design forum, and a list of objects to be added to Brisbane and soon, we could have a GPS accurate region of Brisbane...

I'll turn on the default scenery again and see how close the actual FS airport is to to real thing...

Okay it's close but the photomapping has placed the map a couple of degrees to the south... I think it's probably user error so I'll try and fix the data to get it aligned correctly.... Once I've done that though the rest should be a breeze...

That looks like an incredible way to be sure it matches the original 'port, at least for runways, taxiways, aprons, etc.
Too bad you couldn't use it as a backdrop for Afcad, it would make the job even easier.
I have the gift of second sight, and I forsee you wearing out the 'y' on your keyboard. :rotfl:

Yeah I asked Lee Swordy if he could code it in and he declined.... He seems to have stopped all further development on AFCAD... He had plans to create taxiway signs and everything but went silent after 2.21 came out...

I actually quickly moved on to photoscenery shortly after the above post, I found some excellent satellite data and have since created the entire region. It's now progressing on to what must become a commercial project in order to expand the data I have available...

I have a couple of highly interesting areas to cover now... More on that when the time comes.
