• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Batch convert vs file names

Hi.
I am trying to use Batch Convert wizard for a few of my MDL (or X, doesn't matter) models, for adding night textures. The problem I got is that all my models, after processing, are saved (as an FSX MDL) under the same name. Practically only the last one stays. More graphical explanation:

File_1a.mdl
File_2a.mdl
File_2b.mdl
File_3a.mdl

I would like to overwrite those files after batch or, if it is not possible, to save them in different location but under the same names, each of them. What the program does is processing all the files above but saving each of them under f/e "File_LA.mdl". Each next overwrites the previous so only "File_3a.mdl" remains (named "File_LA.mdl"). Obviously I can batch each file separately and than manually change filenames to those previous, but I believe Batch Convert is able to do that automatically. The other option is obviously Material Editor, but with large amount of textures it crashes.

I thought that maybe this naming problem is referred to "FriendlyName" input while exporting from Max, but my "FriendlyNames" are the same as filenames but still Batch Convert saves those files under f/e "File_LA.mdl". During Batch Convert I am also assigning new GUIDs, this does not help though. There is also nothing about this problem (or lets simply say - how to assign new filenames after batch) in the manual.

I have also tried a Rename Object operator, but even after that, all my 4 models are saved into one file, which is f/e File_000.MDL. I would very much appreciate your help!

Hi,

Let me check. I think by default the friendly name is used as basis for the file name. But you already mention they are different.

Hi,

I checked and by default it should be the name of the object that is used for export. For a FSX object that is the friendly name and for a FS2004 MDL it should be the filename.

Can you show me a few of the objects so that I can try to reproduce what happens? Sounds like the friendly name might be the same on all of them.

Let me know if you still have trouble.

Glad to hear it is working!
