• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Best blender version for MSFS2020

FreightDog gives the correct answer

though i would say to use what Asobo tells you here (this will be more 'future proof')

so they only 'officially' support blender 3.3.x or 3.6.x LTS (LongTermSupport) found here (the docs lag behind- its been stated 3.6 is supported in the Dev Forums by Asobo developers)
These may have edits or fixes they wont bother to add to a 'previous blender version' not under LTS support

and the current official plugin that can be found inside the SDK installation or on the github page
the one on the git is great, but it may change more often- it might be considered a beta considering it seems to always be 'ahead' of the officially distributed one in the SDK install

According to the official github repo for the 2020 addon, it supports 4.5LTS now but "take it with a grain of salt". I still use 3.6LTS and I have seen some devs use 4.2 as well

I use the plug in found in my SDK and portable blender v 3.6.18. Next question is folder structure. I see some scenery I bought on marketplace is not in the community folder but in the main msfs folder(official). ORBX has a simple format with the bulk of files in a texture folder.

yes im aware

ive seen that but ...
for me ... im just not one that needs the 'latest version', i would rather use tried and true software if i can
unless of course there is something specific, like a new feature, i absolutely need

im also in a team, so its all or none to upgrade things like this-
not everyone there wants to chance the project having an issue with a "development environment update" in the middle of a working project (particularly if its commercial)
i know i dont want to be the one that said 'sure lets upgrade' if it breaks things, i'll happily wait for the sdk pages to be updated myself
we are working in 2024 atm so no github, but the same thing applies, they (asobo devs) have stated in the forum that 4.2 works and even 4.5 is alpha but we still use 3.6 just because ...
why chance it, let the anxious people in a hurry be the guinea pigs

Whats LTS?
it means Long Term Support
basically so long as its in that category they will update it for stability (not features)

the idea being you have a more 'stable environment' until a long term project can be finished

Agree, Same reason why me and my team have stayed in 3.6.

There are a couple blender addons we like, but are only made for 4.5+. We can still wait for "official" support and to hear from other's experiences.
