• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Best Program

I'm wondering what everyone thinks the best program is for creating scenery objects.

I used FSDS for 20 years, and it was great, but someone in another thread said it likely would no longer do. Sketchup is now on-line only. Blender looks pretty advanced, but maybe it's the only choice?

I used Gmax throughout my fs2002-Fsx days. I switched to Blender for MSFS and have found it fairly easy to pick up. Also there is a lot of help because lots of designers are using it.

Hi,

I guess there is no best program, the best program is the one you know best and work with most easiest.

Both SketchUp and FSDS do not support the PBR style materials that MSFS uses, so if you use any of these programs, you will have to setup your materials in another tool afterwards. The advantage of Blender is that it has support for all material settings with the MSFS exporter that is available.

So I guess I would pick Blender if I had to choose now. But if you feel very well with FSDS you can still use it to make objects and then for example convert them with MCX to the glTF format for MSFS.

I tried taking the main FSDS file I want to use and importing it to MCX, then exporting for MSFS, but when I tried to use it in ADE it tells me the object is 0X0 feet.

Can you add the glTF files directly in ADE? Or do you first need to turn them onto a library package with the package tool of MSFS?
