• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

BGL Design Not Seen In FS 9

Using FSDS 3. Using Box, I typed in following: width 60, height 10, depth 1320. I chose a concrete texture.
Next I went to Project Properties and entered Lat and Lon. Elevation = 0.
Then I create a scenery object file and place that file in Addon Scenery/Scenery/My Folder Name/scenery.
I save the project and get out of FSDS. I go to FS 9, Scenery Library/Add Area/and choose my folder. I see the red checkmark in the library screen.

I completely get out of FS 9 and Restart. I see the database updating.
I go to my location in FS 9 but nothing shows up!
Can someone tell me if I left something out or did not follow steps correctly?
Appreciate any help

You wrote: "I save the project etc."
But did you also create an object bgl file?

good luck1

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I did save the newly created bgl file.
After I created my design, I selected File/Create FS Object File/Scenery Object File (.bgl or .mdl). I watched it Generate Scenery. Then a Save As window came up placing the bgl in Addon Scenery/My folder name/scenery folder. I may have put the sequence out of order but yes, it was saved.

Hi, to save asking you a lot of questions, would you upload the files to the forum? I will then load everything onto my computer and see what has gone wrong. You should make a zip file of the files concerned since the forum does not accept certain types of files. The files needed would be:-
1) The fsc file from FSDS.
2) The bgl file you created.
3) The concrete texture file.
I am sure we can find a solution to this. :)

Appericate your time and effort.
Just a note: using FS 9, xp home, 2.19 GHz, 2 GB Ram.
Location where trying to put Pier is at Anderson AFB in Guam. From default rwy I turn left flying over ocean. Hope this helps out.
Again, thank you so much

Hi, just a few points for you.
1) Don't join it all up until it is looking ok - check first that everything is in place and looking as you want it. Also with something this big you want to check that the axis is in the centre and not somewhere else for each of the objects you are using. Yours isn't - it is on one of the legs.
2) From the pic I have included you can see that the pillars are a nice concrete texture but the rest isn't. Perhaps you intended it to be this way? Textures. My personal preference is for 32bit textures - I don't get any problems with them like this and I think 8bit is not used so much these days now. Search the forum you will find lots of opinions.
3) Make mdl files instead of bgl. This way you can add the mdl to a library and use EZ Scenery or Instant Scenery to collate all the objects that will be in this project. Also don't use spaces in the titles/names - use an underscore or hyphen to separate the words.
4) A small point - 2 of the supporting pillars are out of place in the centre are they supposed to be like that?
This is a big pier - it will create problems when compiling - everything must be exact and correct. I think I would have made it in sections. You can join them when you have completed the project or you can make say 10 sections and then in FSDS place the first one - make your mdl. Using the first one as the template add the second one all lined up in FSDS then delete the first. Then carry on with the second one as the template and add the third etc etc.You would end up with 10 mdl files but they would be much easier to manage.
You could also place them all in fsds then make a wall (for each side) for the complete length to mask or hide the joints. The sections you would then delete and be left with the 2 walls. This you would also make an mdl.
I know it may sound complicated and a lot of work and fiddling but the end result would be great.
Hope all this helps.

Hi,

I found your pier at the other side of the world!!
Just delete the - (minus) in the Longitude-coordinate!

Another point additional to warminghams: your object has 2780 points and 2470 polyglons. You can save a lot of them, if you make the pillars with sections 1 instead of 8!!
One of your pillars has 99 points and 89 polys, mine would have 22 points and 12 polys!!

Greetings
Hartmut

Thank you so much for your reply. This is a learning experience!! That little minus sign was my whole problem. I never ran into this before.
About these polygons- I guess I would have to redo this project from the beginning in order to use your suggestion. Would this also reduce the size of the overall project quite a bit?
Many thanks again

yes,

I just tried it out:
it reduces the fsc-file from 884 to 108 KB,
the bgl-file from 133 to 58 KB;
and if you compile it to a mdl-file (36 KB) and set this
with e.g. SceneGenX to a bgl will this have only 26 KB.
