• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

FS2004 BGL Question

Using Win 7, FS9, and MCX 1.30. I import a mdl file and view image. Then I select Export>Export Selected Object. The new bgl file is currently being saved in: Computer>C:\>User>Name>AppData>Roaming>Microsoft>
Windows>Recent Items.

I am guessing I need to make a correction under the Options tab> Exporter Settings. But not sure what need to be corrected.

MCX is installed directly to the C:\ drive - not the Program files or the (x86).
Appreciate any suggestions. Thank You

Hi,

The bgl file is always saved in the folder that you select while exporting, newer automatically in the folder you indicate. So just select the scenery folder where you want to have the bgl file as output location.

Today I reinstalled the MCX but this time I put the MCX folder in the default Program Files (x86). For some reason, these 2 files are still going here. I never had this problem before with any version of MCX.
To answer your question - Yes, I always make sure the correct scenery folder is selected when I save.

One other item I failed to mention. First I select the mdl. Then I select the Export>Export Selected Object. The yellow box that normally flashes during the process does not appear.
Appreciate your time and help.

When the OS will not allow you to create files in the folder you specify, they go there instead. This means you have folder permission issues, probably due to installing things into a Program Files folder, which is normally a bad idea for any OS later than XP. This is probably the reason that your files are not compiling either.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

If you install the tools outside of the program files folder admin rights should not be needed. In general I don't run my tools as administrator myself.

What you show in the folder are shortcuts, not the actual files. So where do the shortcuts point to?

And what does the event log say after you exported the bgl?

After reading the reply's, I again uninstalled MCX out of the Program files and reinstalled to the C:\. Thanks to the replies I received, I found I had to correct the BGLComp and the Makemdl paths.

Starting to look better now. But the mdl file continues to go to the "Recent"
folder. Of course, it shows up there as a shortcut. So it is of no help.
And the yellow box issue is now working properly.
Any other ideas?

Again, really do appreciate everyone's help.

Where are you trying to send it? If it is to any Program Files folder you will have the same problem. Compile it to your Desktop and then move it into the proper folder.

I save to Flight Simulator 9>Addon Scenery>Ship Folder>scenery folder.
Here is what I do:
I am using FSDS 3.5.1 and "trying" to make ship. I compile the ship in FSDS. I get a mdl file. I close FSDS and open MCX. I import the mdl file into MCX.
I select the ship.mdl and export and save to the ship folder as a bgl file.
The ship.bgl shows inside the ship folder. But no mdl. As I stated, today I reinstalled MCX back to my C drive.

Do you use Skype?
Thank's for the reply.

Hi,

If you save as bgl of course only a bgl is made in the folder. ModelConverterX will by default not save intermediate mdl files.

As Arno says, there is no MDL file created if you save as a BGL file. You must save as an MDL file for that to be created.
