• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can anyone assist with the script for importing FSX model into Blender 2.72
I have the script which works for 2.45 but hoping to use 2.72

Can anyone assist. I'm new to this so any step by step idiots guide would be great.
Thanks

Boffy

Hi Boffy!

I'm afraid I don't have the capacities for that at the moment. :twocents: Import your model into MCX and export from there in a format that Blender can read OR import your model into Blender 2.4x with the scripts that you have, save your .blend files and reopen them with Blender 2.72.

Great plan re import to 2.45 save as .blend file then open in 2.72.
It worked a treat. Cant get it to save as an STL file at the moment. Think that must be to do with meshes?

Yes was hoping to do a 3D print. Have managed to select some parts and save as STLs. Clearly I need to do a tutorial in blender so that I can achieve this goal.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

You could also test MeshLab (http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/) which is an OpenSource program and can convert OBJ to STL directly.
Import MDL with MCX, export OBJ with MCX, import OBJ with MeshLab and export STL with Meslab could work. Never tested that, its just an idea.
I use MeshLab for reducing the number of polygons when I want to integrate complex objects in FSX. That works great.

Hi Jdberg could you explain how do you work with Meshlab and polygon reduction ? I have Heard that work great but don't know how this this could work I've been using Quadric edge decimation, but it is still very heavy

Hi Bernardo,
I will add a small guide in a separate thread, because the blender thread would be the wrong place. Hope I can manage that today evening.

Right, thanks in advance. Recently I have been taking a look to this and it's very interesting though I can find a way to export in a way don't be so heavy people talk about quadratic edge decimation and you can reduce polygon to half or more but you Have to take care because soon the object in some way lose the smoothness.

Great. will see, sure will be of help. there are a ton of filters and options but who could read the manual entirely. I have enough with max and fsx.
