• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender Material Woes...

I've checked every object (from the outliner, in which you can't use keys to scroll; ridiculous!), but there are several duplicate materials appearing in the MCX material editor when I export.

I think these are the loaded maps in the UV/Image editor which I can't seem to delete, or there seems to be materials which aren't applied to an object, being exported with the .obj? This makes it a bit of a nightmare when exporting the model into fsx.

Are the duplicate materials still there after restarting Blender and reopening the model?

When using the 'highlight in preview' feature in MCX are the duplicate materials completely unused?

Does every object have the same material? Sometimes, the materials are duplicated and you'll get something like this: Material, Material.001, Material.002. Shift+click on the X next to the material name will delete them forever (just like the other datablocks like images).

Let us know ;)

I checked every item, they have all the same multimaterial attached. There aren't any duplicate materials.

Ok, there's a face and and a couple of objects which have different textures applied using MCS's highlighter. But going in and deleting this material from it, reapplying and exporting again doesn't solve it. I has a different materials applies than that shown in blender.

Hmm, interesting! I never pass my files through MCX, so I couldn't say if I experience this too. I'd say that this shouldn't occur with only one material on the object, but apparently it does...

Are you exporting to COLLADA then importing into MCX? I have been having some trouble at times with materials not being picked up correctly. I ended up exporting to .X with the Blender2FSX toolkit and the materials are more correct there.

@Shaun I recommend try to export using Blender2FSX and see if this got better results. ;)

Ah... I didn't realise you could export with it. Whoops. I'll see after work.

I'm not sure if cycles materials would export with the toolset though. Forgot to try that. Would be nice though. Sometimes figuring out material exporting is like a button mashing exercise for me.

I should have read that better. I've been focusing on using COLLADA export because that's the method I learnt from tutorials. I figured that cycles materials weren't working through trial and error. Reading that would have saved hours of time.

Yeah, me too! The .x for FSX is better. There's still one duplicate, but not three!
