• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Blender won't export textures.

Hi!

I am using Blender 3.3.9 and the Asobo exporter 1.3.2. For some reason the exporter creates .bin, .gltf and .xml files, but it will not export textures and the xml-files connected to the textures. The folder is simply empty. Any ideas?

2 possible reasons I see. First, you should pack textures and save the .blend file, then unpack the textures, and save the .blend file. This gives the exporter a path to the textures.
Secondly, In the multi-export settings, untick Keep original... it's ticked by default (who knows why?!?)

"Keep original" was unticked so that was not the problem. But where is the pack and unpack textures option?

Hmmm...what happened is that I got an error message "source path not found". Then saved and chose unpack. Got several choices on hov to save the files. Chose one and saved again. Then I tried to export and got a lot of error messages. However, it made a texture folder (not where I wanted it) with the graphics files...but there was no xml files in the texture folder. In addition, the textures in Blender turned pink....or in other words, the path was changed. Maybe it had to do with the unpack choice, but that does not explain the missing xml-files?

The "default on" is kind of baffling, even more the reaction of the dev about it when I asked them why not set it off by default. Makes zero sense for such an important setting.

When I export from Blender, I export everything to a separate folder on my desktop. In that folder is the .blend file and the 'textures' folder with the textures for the unpacked .blend file. I export the gltf and the textures (with their .xml files) to the .blend folder. To add to the sim, I copy the gltf and .xml files and textures to the project folder. A two step process to keep the working model away from the project folder.
Attached is an example. The .blend file is unpacked and has a 'textures' folder with it's textures. The gltfs, xmls, and textures are also exported there. Copy the gltfs, xmls and textures to there appropriate ProjectSources folder in the project.
