• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi All,

I would like to know please weather or not it is possible to create a illuminante texture to apply to a object so at night it glows in theory without having to place a effect. I wanted to apply it to a Lamp post instead of having a effect attached.....

Is it at all possible?

Thanks

Hi,

Sure, using a night texture is very well possible. You see it in most sceneries. What you need to do is put the night version of your texture in the Ambient slot of your material.

So if i want my object to glow a little like a lap pos does, simply apply a night texture?

Thanks

You'd be amazed how much textures can do... I find it takes me a few times to get the right "look" but I always start off trying to imagine how lights and shadows play on the surfaces...

Look at these two examples of my night textures... NO effects were used to create this look only creative use of textures:

If you study the hangar closely you can almost believe there is light splashing out onto the roof and the air conditioners are causing shadows...

Ah right, thanks for the help and the pictures.....

Looks good what you have done, will try it my self.

Thanks

Wondered if you could please help me again.

I am using Adobe photoshop 7 to create my night textures but i don't think it is very useful for it. As when you add for lights the texture changes coulour etc etc.

Could you please tell me what everybofy else use? Is there a better program to use?

Thank you.
