• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I have used 3DSMax and gmax for years, and feel confident with those. But I am getting so very tired or all the "rocket science" I have to go through, especially regarding materials and their properties...loosing my urge to make nice terminals.

Do any of you know about a program that automates things more than gmax? How is Flightsim Design Studio? I am interested in both freeware and payware.

Cheers,

Hi,

For most simple objects you don't have to change that much to the material settings do you?

I don't think FSDS is much easier, as in the end it still uses the FS exporter tools which demand all those material things.

FSDS is actually harder to use for UVW Mapping, and as Arno has stated for FSX the Material Properties are the same as that used in Max/GMax...

Modelers who use FSDS have to use a "helper program" to set up Material Properties because Louis didn't program that into his FSDS program.

I know it may sound strange, but if you study the SDK section "New Aircraft Procedures" you'll find ready made "recipies" for setting up Diffuse Texture Material Properties, as well as "Glass" and "Lightmaps."

The document "Texturing Aircraft Models" is also quite helpful, as is "FSX Materials..."

Thx for the feedback.

So I might as well stay with gmax then...and re-read "Texturing Aircraft Models", then put the essence of it into my own "gmax tips" notebook (paper, not a PC!) :)

What I really whish for is a program that can make different "generic" buildings and put on different and custom-made textures easily. Had "Terramodels" for Fly II, it was a little gem. I guess such a program would boost building development for FS a lot. One could use it for many airport models, and gmax only for the "high-end stuff".
