• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Can we open third party airport’s .bgl with ADE in order to edit it ?

Thanks for the easy to follow list of actions. This is kind of what I have been doing and I do see result of my changes to parking radius etc but generally buildings and other stuff dissapear. Its like building are not saved with the airport file in this process and I loose them.
If you are building projects that show black boxes instead of objects then ADE is not finding data on the objects so the placement data does not get compiled) The usual solution is to load the bgl file containing the custom objects (usually has ModelLib in the name) into the ADE Library Object Manager. I seem to recall and option to compile black box objects in earlier versions of ADE but it seems to be not available in this version - not sure why

In my case I want to modify the Simwings EDDH file as rw 5 and 23 data are mixed up. This was caused by an update in april. Aerosoft has forwarded it to the developer but no update yet. So I want to do it myself ( personal use ).
When approaching 23 the localizer/ils turns me away from the ap.

However, when looking in the Simwings EDDH folders I cannot find an airport file...
I can look into the default EDDH file and there the ILS frequencies + LOC angles are correct.

Anything I should pay attention too ?

exactly. I just tried a payware airport I own and several black boxes did appear in ADE. Upon starting up MSFS the changes I did were made but the main terminal building was gone. Many other object were there though like cones, fences and some custom building etc. The thing is that I did an import of the modlelib.bgl from the payware developer but the black boxes were still there after this import. Perhaps I missed a step in this becasue those black boxes should dissapear once it recognises the library object right? Still feel like i'm slowly getting somewhere :)

Either you are trying to open the wrong bgl file or more likely it is encrypted so you won't be able to edit it.

I see. I guess that means that opening and editing the ADE files like you could before is not that straightforward anymore? Or is there a way to circumvent the encryption?

How did you do it with the sim wings HAM?

I managed to update my payware airport with ADE and the buildings are now there yeyyyyh :) After having imported the modellib in the library and saved the airport in ADE and opening it up again in ADE the black boxes were almost all gone. After having created the project and copied the airport.bgl file to the payware folder and replacing the original one everything was there in MSFS, terminal building and everything. Now what only seem to be a problem is that the runway lacks its markings etc. Its now just a asphalt runwway with numbers in both ends but no markings and all that.

No there is no legal way to circumvent the encryption and this forum has no tolerance such actions. That, of course, is why there is encryption - to protect your intellectual property.

Which airport is this? Sounds like a transparent runway and the underlying photo scenery is showing through. Make sure the transparent flag for the runway has not somehow been set to true.

Hold your horses there, it would be for my personal usage. Im not planning to sell anything. Also it has not been a problem for decades. So why make a big fuss about changing gates all the sudden the the developer obviously doesn’t care about won’t end the world… but it’s ok.

I am also having issues with an ELLX scenery by RedFox. Imported the modelLib.bgl into ADE, models appear as yellow not black and compiled it all, Replaced previous ADE file and now it doesn't recognise any addon scenery and reverts back to stock.

I am completely new to ADE. And with the release of FS Traffic I figured out my 3rd party Add On Airport has to small gates compared to how it is in Real Life. I therefore tried out ADE and managed to load the BGL and edit the gate sizes but now i dont know how to get it it back into the Community folder. Could someone explain that to me?
