• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Cannot get Max2012 P3D SDK to work

I decided to leave the unstable, buggy gmax for 64bit 3DSMax 2012 Student, and have the P3D SDK installed, and patched to "64bit".

Still, after setting the path in Max, it says it can't use 32bit stuff?

PS: Do I need to remove Max from Program Files, maybe? And put it in my FS partition instead, as I do with the SDK's?

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Did you add this line to the "Configure System Paths" "3rd Party Plugins" tab:

(Your path may differ a little but should be same from Lockheed Martin\ on)
H:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D SDK 1.4.4747.0\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM2012_x64\Plugins

What exactly are you trying to do when you get the message about 32bit...

3DSM2012_x64\Plugins

Now I feel stupid :censored:

Thank you for hammering in the obvious - x64. I now look at my first Max2012 model in FSX. It is Heaven to get rid of the crappy gmax viewports and geriatric drivers, finally

It's not "rocket science," but it is so easy to overlook the obvious. I do that all the time myself...

...but I can blame it all on "old age!" :rotfl:

I have Max 2012 Pro version but haven't set aside the time to install it yet. I want to make certain that I don't mess up my Max9 installation, because I plan to keep it around just in case...

It is indeed easy to overlook the obvious. Actually I am better to check the obvious first at work, than at home, so I need to rewrite my thinking. I have a tendency to switch off "job mode" when going home, but there are a few things I should not shut down. So I do not blame this on old age (I'm 50 in November). Which I regard as "still not out of puberty" ... :D

I was about to switch to Sketchup, until I learnt I could use Max 2012. I love Max and will never leave it, even if I start to use Sketchup for simple models. After modeling 33 airports for FSX, I finally purchased Photoshop CS5. Best buy I ever did. One of these days I may purchase a second-hand Max too :)

Cheers,

You're lucky to get to use Max 2012! Finding a genuine secondhand licence will probably take a very great deal of searching, although it's not completely impossible (I should know, I use 2008).

Keep up the good work all the same!

Being still in the legacy period, you can mortgage your family and buy Max 2014 from Autodesk, with a retrograde use of 2012.

Personally, I never upgraded (no need) ... still have Max 2012x64 Did delete Max x86 from the laptop, though.

Bill, Max 2012 x64 will sit beside your old Max install, and have no bearing whatsoever. Just install it and lave the other Max where it is. (In fact Max 2008, 2011, 2012 ec will all coexist without drama)
