• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I imported a model, edited its friendly name and exported it.

MCX will not read the exported model.

Model attached.

Hi George,

I see that XtoMDL gives errors when compiling the model. So that would mean the new MDL is probably 0 kB in size and therefore does not open. Let me see where the errors come from.

Yes, you are correct, the exported model is 0Kb. I hadn't noticed that.

I think you will also have the XtoMDL errors in your event log.

Hi,

It's the ' in the attachpoint name. Let me check if I can filter those out automatically.

I have another exported model which XtoMdl won't read. Unfortunately MCX deletes the .x file.

The only makemdl.exe I have is in the FS9 SDK and XtoMdl.exe is in FSX_GmaxGamePack\Plugins\XToMdl.exe, are these the correct versions?

Edit. Is there any way to print the log?

Hi George,

In the options you can set if the x file is kept or not.

The event log can be saved to txt file with the button at the bottom left.

Your makemdl and xtomdl versions sound fine to me.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

Thanks Arno.

I have attached the .x file (with extension .txt) and error log.

Hi George,

In that X file it seems some normals have become NaN. Do you have the MDL for me as well? That will make debugging easier.

Thanks Arno, it is the third model in the attached bgl.

Hi George,

I fixed that bug in the next release, it should be online now.

The NaN values were in the MDL already, so I just reset those normals to a fixed value. Might give some shading issues on those polygons, but that is better than an error.
