• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Canopy Glass

I am just finishing off some static gliders to put on an airfield. I have all the textures for the fuselage etc...how do I do canopy glass, I have tried to get my head around it but it just won't sink in. When I did them before 'back in the day' I just set the transparency in Max. This time I would like to utilise some of the new features for FSX, not too much as they are only statics, just enough to give that nice look.

Thanks

Paul

ps in idiot guide mode would be good (I use Photoshop CS3)

Look in the SDK under "New Aircraft Procedures" and use the listed "recipie" for Glass.

ACES provides a step-by-step listing, so there's little point to repeating it here in a post...

Hi Bill

I have got it working...in a fashion, however I am not convinced I have done it right. I have set up a separate material/diffuse colour and folowing the SDK, changed the various settings.

However all I did was change the colour in the diffuse panel, I haven't created a texture sheet for the glass and despit looking through I cannoty see anything which explains this. The same applies to the fresnal ramp, the sdk mentions the .bmp??

Nearly there not quite, where am I going wrong...if I am

Thanks

Well I have a sort of improvement, but I still don't think it is sinking in. My canopy is transparent, and has a slight reflection, however it is very dull, well its seems dull. I am assuming its is something to do with the textures I ave used?? are there separate textures for glass?? if there are...how and what, I tried a simple grey but that didn't work, well it did, like above.

Any advice would be really appreciated

Paul

Nope, haven't got it right, when I do a render in 3dsMax it looks great, by the time its in FSX its just dull, you can see that there is glass but it doesn't have the shine effect or the reflection
