• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I had no problem with generating the MDL file then my BGL with FSDS for FS9....now there is no way I can get this done with FSDS 3.5 for FSX, I can´t find the MakeMDL nor Xto
dl programs in all FSX MDK....can someone tell me what am doing wrong???

Hi,

There is no MakeMDL in the FSX SDK, it is called XtoMDL. You should find it in the plugins folder of the 3DS or GMax gamepacks for the Modelling SDK.

Solid, had the same problem till a couple days ago. Other than what Arno said, you have to get the new FSX SDK SP1A. That's what clinched it for me...

This is assuming you have already installed your regular FSX SDK from your FSX Deluxe version Disk 1. It should have installed itself to C:/ Program Files/ Microsoft Games/ Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK. (right next to your other flight sim folder). Point the FSDS 3.5 compiler to this, then update it with this download:

Let us know what happens.

Hi Znobyrd and Arno....
I re-installed the SDK + SP1A and this is what I am gettig:

When I generate the BGL it apparently does so for I find the BGl file in the addon scenery/scenery directory, I say apparently since for some reason or other I am not able to place it in FSX with Instant Scenery---it does not appear on the list, cant figure why???? (I am activating it!!)......FSDS sends me this message as it generates the BGL:

OutputFile: _temp.MDL
Output file after modification: _temp.MDL
Creating output MDL file: _temp.MDL
CRASHTREE no granularity specified
CRASHTREE completed in 00:00:00.0156250

and it freezes!!!!!!...............any thoughts????
Thanks

Solid, I had to download the new FSDS v. 3.5.1 from Abacus to solve some of my problems, have you tried that?

Znobyrd---Ok, things are beginning to fall in place...
I checked and it DID generate the BGL!!! Hurray!!!!:p
But, even if I did download 3.5.1 and it loaded perfectly and recognized my previous 3.0 and accepted my Serial Number...the $%$%& is acting like a DEMO and will not show the objects except in Seattle and sorroundings!!!!!!!...Jesus Perez, this thing is driving me nuts!!!!!!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I share your pain. We've all been there. I got the following from Simforums.com, you might look into them, they deal alot with Instant Scenery problems. This deals with Instant Scenery objects not showing up ...

"If a library is only working in one particular area, you cannot use it's objects anywhere else.

In FS9, the default libraries generic.bgl, landmark.bgl and vehicles.bgl can be used everywhere. There are also a lot of add-on libraries for FS9 made by users that you can download from the Internet."

ie., any object in Instant Scenery has an area associated with it, or it can be global if told to.

By the way when I downloaded FSDS 3.5.1, it recognised my 3.0and key and settled in right nice.

Thanks amigo......Will see over the weekend what can be done. Like you, version 3.5.1 said it recognized my 3.0 key....but in reality it did not do so....with the key, you can set any object you make anywhere in the world, but like I said it is not doing so......this program is full of bugs like its predecessor, you have to be a circus "wriggler" to get it going.......I settled my fps beef with FSX after a year or so---now I guess I will have to do battle with this one too.......incredible!!!!:(:(:(

Znobyrd ...............Thank you amigo

GOT IT!!!.....Well it´s done!!!!
Here is the conclusion:
For one reason or other if you compile the object as a bgl file, "intelligent" FSDS 3.5.1 makes it a Fixed object to a location and cannot be placed anywhere you want---very smart of the designer...may Jesus and Budda help him!!!!!!:scratchch
It has to be compiled as an mdl file then converted to bgl by another program and then it shows anywhere you place it!!!!!------WOW!!!!:eek: very inteligent!!!!!!
Now I am in peace with FSX and FSDS.....wow what brains make these programs!!!!!.......they should take a cold shower once in a while!!!!!!!---let´s see what breaks next?????

Take care my friend.....................
