• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Can't UV wrap correct material

My (main) object is a shed with lots of loop cuts, extrude etc to create its roof, front deck etc.
Originally I applied a simple color to the roof (in edit mode selecting the faces which make up the roof). After that I applied a decal to one of the windows.
Now when I attempt to apply a different (image texture) material to any of the faces which make up the roof, I select the face, select the material and then Assign. When I go to UV editing to 'wrap' it displays a completely different texture (than the one assign) and it is the DECAL. Below is a screen shot in EV editing showing the decal material instead of the 'brown wood' material
What is the answer please (to allow me to change the old material)?

Up the top of the left window (where it says SECHELT_SHED_WINDOW) use the drop down box to select the correct texture.

As far as I am aware Blender doesn't automatically change the texture in the UV editing window to match the texture used in your material so you have to manually change it each time which is probably the single most frustrating thing about Blender.

Holy cow. This has prompted me to do some googling.

To the right of the image selector in the UV editing window there is a small pin called "Image Pin". Click on that so it is transparent. If it is solid it will always display the current image regardless of object selection. I can't believe I haven't figured this out before.

Anthony , you have come to my rescue and allowed me to learn something else about using Blender.
There are so many little 'things' in Blender to know about and I wonder if most people learn them from 'suck and see' method rather than reading manuals (which I don't like and prefer to use them only for reference).
I am wondering if I should have the 'image pin' deselected all the time - I can't think of any use to have it selected.
Thanks

I have no idea what about 90% of Blender does. I know the 10% I need to know to do what I do but there's so much stuff in Blender I can't imagine knowing it all.

Sometimes I click on the wrong thing and I wonder what I have messed up. I might have clicked on that little pin once upon a time but I suspect it may have been set that way by default because I've never had the texture automatically update. I also can't think of any reason to have it selected.

Seems you are similar with Blender as I am although you have demonstrated a few times that you know a lot more than I do. I too sometimes click on the wrong thing and cannot find my way back and so reload the Blender file.
I wonder how many users know 90% of Blender or can figure out what to do when they come up to a 'wall' I sometimes wonder though if I'm a klutz or that Blender is not particularly intuitive. Anyway I 'love' using Blender even though I sometimes 'stumble'. And when I 'play' those instructional videos which I received regularly (via emails) from 'Jan' at 'Blendersecrets' my head goes into a spin..
