• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

That came much faster than I expected. Glad to see there's some more Tintin fans around here.

Oh yes, oh yes - I especially look forward to the interior. Will there be an additional dog basket for "Snowy"?

I don't remember a dog basket.
Other thant that I just got bored yesterday so I started to model a bit. Not sure how far I will get with this anyway.

I read every single one of these (except for the one they pretend doesn't exist) when I was a kid, I was always fascinated by how much detail they put into the airplanes (I think there was a Trident in one of the books and it had the offset nose gear and everything). Apparently most of them were drawn by technical artist Roger Leloup, who was a huge aviation fan.

Yeah I also remember the Trident. Once I knew about it the point when Roger Leloup joined Hergé's team seems even obvious as suddenly everything is full of "modern" jet airliners.

Still the Carreidas 160 is one of his most famous and genius inventions and to be honest one of the actual reasons I fell in love with aviation back when I was 8.

I still have a copy of Flight 714, I scanned a few pages and put all the panels where you could see the cockpit together. Judging by the shape of the glareshield in the 4th panel and the three rows of engine gauges with the annunciators to the right in the first panel, it looks to me like the main panel is similar to the L-188 but with only three sets of engine instruments instead of four. One of the characters says that the panel on the left side of the cockpit is a navigator station. The book was written before INS and LORAN, so my guess is that the station has some sort of Doppler system and maybe some other primitive transatlantic navigation methods. The comic also mentions that the three engines provide a total of 18,500 lbs of thrust.

Thanks for the research and sorry for my late reply.
I did a quick search for the L-188 and the cockpit looks indeed almost identical left for the number of engines.
Regarding the navigation I found it is also equipped with ILS/VOR receivers when I discovered some original technical reference drawings by Roger Leloup: http://carreidas160jet.blogspot.com/
Not sure how far I will go regarding systems.

Small update:

I added the the small Galley windows and started working on the main landing gear (very little reference online).

I rescaled the entire model to match the dimensions given in Roger Leloup's drawings as accurately as possible.
I'll also need to redo the engines. The shape is far off in the blueprint I used.
