• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Catalina Airport

Thanks, It works best with firefox or safari, but I will see if I can improve it for Internet Explorer users :)

Just now downloaded it and tried it out. :)

The models look great - Can't imagine how much time was spent on the cafe/lobby area.

My suggestion would be decreasing the opacity of the aerial imagery ground polygon layer and runway markings so that your base tarmac texture can show through more.

Also, at the end of runway 22 there is a bit of AFCAD tarmac sticking out from under the ground polygon. I'd tuck that in with AFCAD if you can.

I'm glad you're working on Catalina; I was going to do it at one time but I had trouble with editing the shorelines.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion scubakobe, unfortunately the tarmac piece doesn't budge. I used AFCAD v2.1 and I can't seem to select it . I might just cover it with some more photo imagery, I'm planning to make the who island anyway.

I'm using AFCAD 2.2.1 and was able to delete the tarmac apron. Why aren't you using the most current version?

Photoscenery as a terrain BGL won't cover up the AFCAD; only a ground polygon will.

Here's what I came up with:

Well to answer you first question, well...err..umm....

The photo scenery layer that covers the airport is a dxt3 mapped polygon with transparencies, note the boundaries, I was planning to leave some to cover it before I found out you could remove it and to make the tarmac more transparent just as you suggested.

Any suggestions for the modeling :D

Looking good - I'm running it in FSX, though i don't think it works 100% the base image by the runway kind of flickers showing the afcad below.

Thanks

Didn't find anyting else - though i did think that the grass on the runway could be more towards the edge rather than on the runway, other than that i was impressed with the quality of buildings, cafe and terminal were superb. Would love to be able to knock up and airport like that.

Nice job, love the photoreal base !

Yes I agree with you on the grass, at one point it was actually near the center of the taxiway, what was I thinking.

Hehe - i will take a real deep look at it for you tomorrow, don't want to release an un-finished and untested product.
