• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

CFS2 / FS9 "legacy" models?

Hi,

I started to work with SAMM and had quite a few successes, what a great tool!
Cheers to the developer!

But I noticed that there must be some models that were converted from original CFS2 aircraft to FS9, and some were even ported to FSX. SAMM does not want to read these files ("no FS8/FS9 models"), and I guess there is still some "legacy code" from CFS2 in the models.
I suspect that there are still some "if var and" conditions or something else that bugs SAMM. Would it be possible to ignore that code when SAMM parses these model files? If we could read models that had its origin in CFS2 it would be a real blast, because then we designers of historical sceneries (I did FSX Solomon 1943) could populate the airfields with all those splendid CFS2 models as static scenery objects.

I know it could be done, because I did it before manually by hand by hacking the SCASM code of the models, but this is a very tedious and error prone process and often requires a rework of the models in GMAX, because of detached parts that collapse to the center of the 3d model. Now if SAMM could work with this, as I said, this would be revolutionary.

All the best,
Mark

Mark, while I've never experimented with CFS2 models, so I have no idea what the differences at the BGL level might be. (SAMM decompiles the BGL, "adjusts" it and re-compiles; it does not work at the SCASM level.)

I'll take a look at doing what you ask. But it won't be for a while.

Surely there can't be many aircraft that exist for pre-FS8 that have not been redone for FS8/9.
