• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

FSX Changing torque and prop settings?

Would it possible to adjust torque and prop settings to reflect max torque 1623ft/lbs at a prop setting of 2200rpm on any fsx/p3dv4 aircraft, freeware or payware? The settings i'm looking for are

Takeoff power setting = Max Torque 1623 ft/Lbs
Prop RPM @2200 RPM

Climb Power Setting = Torque 1400-1500 ft/Lbs
Prop RPM 2000 RPM

Cruise Power setting = Torque 1400 ft/LBS
Prop RPM 1800 RPM.

Climb out airspeed 110kts and cruise TAS 180kts are the figures im also chasing. The aircraft I'd try it on would be Carenado Cheyenne 3 or F406 Caravan 2. Is this even possible to replicate with this type of aircraft? If not would a freeware FSX aircraft be capable of being modified to represent those figures? Thankyou for any help and replies.
 
Those values would be engine/airframe specific. It would be far more useful to explain what aircraft you're actually trying to simulate.

The Grumman Mallard Turbine is the aircraft, however its slightly different to everything as it was a specially modified aircraft. Milton Shupe with help has developed a version of this aircraft for fsx, however it doesn't have the right gauges or any realistic one engine operative handling. Its missing some systems too. He has given me permission to modify it as necessary but I have no clue on where to start.

Yes Warp, the engine is the PT6-34 780 SHP derated to 650 SHP. Thank you for the reply by the way

Assuming this is a turboprop... in the aircraft.cfg file there are several settings that control the engine performance.

Under [turboprop_engine] there is maximum_torque. It's the maximum torque available in ft-lbs.
Under [TurbineEngineData] there is rated_N2_rpm. This is the engine's maximum RPM value. It is used in combination with another setting...
Under [propeller] there is gear_reduction_ratio. It is the divisor that is used with the rated_N2_rpm value above to determine the maximum propeller RPMs.

Those three values control torque and RPM for the turboprop.

Set maximum_torque=1623
Set gear_reduction_ratio=12.96 (assuming rated_N2_rpm=28500).

However, that would actually result in 680hp... so I'm not certain your #'s are correct. Assuming your prop RPMs are accurate, then your maximum_torque would be 1552, not 1623.
 
You are correct, it's been a long day and that is my mistake. The -34 is 750SHP flat rated to 680SHP. Thank you for the info, I will play with those settings and see what happens.
 
Warp, you are a gem! Thank you for that handy info as it has worked a treat. I changed out most of the flight dynamics to match and F406 responds just like the Mallard and with correct indications.
