• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Changing what service is called while in flight

In making my NKL airport a large hub airport, I am adding all the fun services, approach, departure, tower, ATIS, Clearance, etc...

My question is this.. When I am flying say from Atlanta to NKL (southwest) I get routed to tons of different controllers when close to NKL. Yesterday, I went from Valparaiso to Hurlburt to Pensacola to Hurlburt to Pensacola to Pensacola to Valparaiso to Pensacola to Holley Tower.

Those were all (if I recall) approach controllers. Is there a way to make it so that Holley Approach is the main approach it contacts? Holley, because of the size, should actutally take over operations as primary from Hurlburt and Valparaiso when approaching from the north, northeast, east, and south east, south. In other words, aircraft flying into those airports should contact Holley. From the nw, w, sw-s, it should be Pensacola.

Is this possible? And how do I go about doing it, if it is.

(don't you just hate when people do this like every 2 days!!!!)

In AFCAD I think I remember being able to change the power of some comms. I don't know if that is possible in FSX. That might be an ADE question. Does ATC use "Holly Approach" for you?

Bob

Bob, it does use it...but usually only once I am right on top of it.. Again, the worst, and stupid part is, if you arrive from the north, it will hand you back and forth to several towers all within a couple minutes... it's ludicrous. It simply doesn't happen that way in real life.. AT least never when I was flying into various airports.

I have never been flying into say my home airport..KHAO from say KORD. I would not be passed from Indianapolis to Dayton to Cincinnati to Dayton to Cincinnati to Dayton to Cincinnati....

Yet, in FS, that is exactly what was happening.

I would love to know how it determines what you use...and when you are within x miles of your destination, it should pass you to the approach that you will use all the way down...NOT change based on what direction approach tells you to fly for 30 seconds.

If power / priority can be changed, or edited, I would be really happy to know how.

I recall a thread over at AVSIM where someone complained about how often FSX changed comms. One of the mods, an experienced pilot, answered and said that sometimes he ran into times where he was traded off seveal times, quickly, in real life. I'd like "Center" to work at my airport.

I never flew commercial, however, I did instruct for several years and have 100's of x-countries under my belt.. I think it MAY have happened once where I went quickly between 3 different approach controllers.

And you know what, that would be fine. Again, my thing is the 1-2-1-3-1-1(dif freq)-3-2-tower

that's just insane!!!!!

I just flew from atlanta to navarre and got this on approach to nkl:

approaches 1, 2, and 3 then tower... as this:

1 - turn left heading 130 <-- about 3 minutes
1 - tune to 2
2 - about 2 minutes - turn right heading 220
2 - about 1 minute - turn right heading 274
2 - about 10 seconds - tune 3
3 - about 30 seconds - turn left heading 180
3 - about 10 seconds - tune 2
2 - about 10 seconds - tune 2
2 - about 10 seconds - tune 3
3 - about 1 minute - turn left heading 170 contact tower

This was insane!!!! If you just click the tune on the atc window, that's one thing...but I like tuning the radio by hand if not dealing with this insane crap. LOL

Aren't there some threads here about the comm/atc boundaries? I think they are stored in the navaid bgl's.
