• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Closed taxiways

Here I thought I had ADE mastered, silly me. :o
I have closed taxiways that I drew in ADE that I would just love to open them up. And for the life of me, without going into the bgl file, I can not figure out how to open them in ADE, without deleting them and re-drawing 'em.
Did I miss the train, the 'ole eyes deciving me or have I just lost it, cause I can not find it anywhere in the pdf's or this website on how to open them back up. :banghead:

Select the link - place the mouse over it so you can see the link highlighted and the tooltip then click the mouse - it should go orange (the line that is not the surface. Right Click and select Edit Object or just hit Enter. When the properties dialog open go to the Type drop down box which will say closed and change it to what you want - say click TAXI. Then Click the OK button and it will be changed

Uhhhhhh, in ver 1.05 the "Type" drop down box is not avail. (or not there) from the properties menu.
I thought this was in the earlier ver., but... unless I am completly FUBAR, I do not see it. :o

Hmm - just opened an airport in 1.05 and the type box is available. not sure what is going on there - can you post the ade file for the airport so we can look at it?

Alright... Went and loaded up ADE in a new folder and copied all my files to the new folder. Ran ADE and lo and behold, there it was in the top right corner.

So, I went back to the original installed ADE, and it was not there. Then, I remembered something, earlier I had run the Fault Finder, and for some reason, it locked up. Hence I got the window error and it shut down ADE. I re-ran the Fault Finder (went and had lunch as it took awhile to crunch the numbers), came back (it found a missing link and such), fixed those errors, shut down ADE, re-started, selected the closed tw, edit, and there it was in the top right corner. :)

Maybe with the unexpected shut down by XP, there may have been a... shall we say a slight malfunction. But, everthing is fine now and will keep an eye out for this just in case and let you know.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the feedback. There are some situations where the Type box may not be shown. Looks like you got locked into one of those. Let me know if it happens again. If fault finder is very slow please check the setting you have for logging. Logging should always be set to normal unless we ask you to change it. Debug or Full logging slows things down a great deal as there is loads of writes to disk.

Yea... I have mine set for Full and there are a ton of paths, points and so forth. No big deal. I only run it every now and then (or after a major construction project). :coffee:

I will keep you informed if I find any other problems.

I would still strongly advise not leaving logging on full or debug in normal operation. Not only does it slow down ADE but also the log will fill very quickly thus if you get a problem and we ask for the log the chances of the important data having been flushed already is quite high. Maybe we need to be clearer in our operations notes but Normal logs all the important information and 99 times out a 100 is sufficient for us to find the source of soemthing going wrong.

Are you aware that Ground ATC does not honor or understand a closed taxiway link?

You can close the link (show the X) but in order to stop ATC ground from using it you must break the link from the taxiway network. I normally break the taxiway link line and then drag one node on top of the other ending node so it looks like they are connected.

FS does the same thing with many stock airports

Jim;

Yup, I know about the link. I use them more as a reference when placing parallel tw.

Jon, successfully duplicated the missing change link type window in the properties. ;)
Select two or more links for a global edit, edit and then either Cancel or OK. When you go back to Edit a link, the Type window is gone.
You have to exit the program and restart ADE in order to get the Type window back.
So lesson learned: Do global changes last after you decide that T2 before the HS on left side should be Solid with lights. :)

OK That bug is actually fixed and will be in the next release (couple of weeks away at most now :))
