• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Colocated Vertices issue

Hey all,

I cannot seem to get some (alot) of Co-Located Vertices to leave town.

I have tried everything.

I am using the Gmax FS2004 SDK.

I select all, set distance to 0.00 and click Weld, and sometimes, it shows nothing in range to be welded. I can up the distance to 0.01, and sometimes a tad higher, and still no co-located Vertices. Yet when I run the model in MakeMDL.exe, the program crashes from co-located Vertices.

Is there a way to;

A. Can I somehow force weld the Vertices?

B. Is there a Max/Gmax Script that will 'show' all co-located Vertices?

I wonder what is causing this. I wonder if its double sided polygons? I dont think so though, as this was happening mildly in my previous model, which I created here in Gmax.

Any idea's?

I did have this happening on some Poser people models, low-poly Type 4 people mesh. I ended up selecting Smooth, and applied a new texture to them and they finally compiled... This isnt doing that though for some reason.

So far, I have tried;
* Convert to Editable Poly, select all Vertices, Weld Distance=0.001, weld (as many times as possible)
* Convert to Editable Mesh, select all Vertices, Weld Distance=0.001, weld (as many times as possible)
* Applied one material, plain 'material' with no texture (for now)
* Applied 'Smooth' with '1' group selected (all) for 'total max smoothness'
* Rewelded all vertices in EP mode.
* Rewelded all vertices in EM mode.

Still no go....

arrgh...

I should add...

The model compiles fine on first Export. Its crashing via the X-files drop on the second round.

* Export model, exterior
* Create secondary interior file from first (cloned, renamed)
* Drop main X file on MakeMDL.exe
.......runs for a moment, then crashes, colocated vertices.

First export is fine.
Second run to create ASM files in MakeMDL is when it crashes.

Right now, I am working on 'one' part group (of many) to see if I can get it to go through. All I have tried so far is not working.

I think I have discovered the issue.

There are many knobs that have double sides hidden, such as back to back, all on the same object, (surfaces butted against each other, etc). I just discovered these and am slowly going through deleting the hidden surfaces and the vertices immediately weld.

whew... Thought something was picking on me again...

Well, in cleaning up the parts, I still have co-located Vertices.

What in the world could this be I wonder?

arrgh

Hi Bill,
I remember how I overcame this issue.
Identify all objects with co-cocated vertices.
Attach them all together in order to have one unique resulting object.
Then you can select and weld again.
Hope I'm not missing some step.
Good luck

Thanks ALain,

I actually did that to some, but nearly all of the parts are like this and I have gone through and tried welding them in both EP and EM modes and they still have CL Vertices.

A possible issue. The model was created in LightWave and exported as 3DS, Imported into Gmax.

I did find some 'interior' polygons, but only a few and have removed them all, (in the object I am doing now, just trying to get 'one' to export and from there I can move on to the others).

What a mess.. arrgh. Now that I have the FS9 Unlimited Export system working, I cant get the model into it, lol....

Makes one's eyebrows want to just turn gray and curl up...

I just realised I mis-spelled this the entire time. 'Colinear' Vertices....

arghh..

off to search for information on this.
