• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX colours showing but textures not

Since this refers to Sketchup, MCX and ADEx I'm not sure where this should be posted - sorry.
I'm using some low poly objects made in Sketchup to use as AI aircraft.MDL's. I've imported the .DAE to MCX, used the material editor to convert to .DDS then exported to an FSDS file. This opens OK in FSDS but without any textures. In Project properties I've entered the texture path. I create FSX object as an aircraft file.
Everything works in FSX as it should except the textures do not show (black) If I use colours instead of textures in the sketchup model then they all show.
So far I've tried all sorts of combinations of .bmp's or .dds formats in the aircraft texture folder. When I export the model from MCX as a static model for ADEX and place in the scenery all the textures are good. It's only when exported as an aircraft model the textures don't appear. I'm quite familiar with the folder formats for AI aircraft.
Any suggestions as what the correct procedure should be.
Thank you.

Hi,

Did you try to use the MCX MDL for your AI aircraft? Since the scenery and aircraft MDL formats are the same in FSX, that might just work.

If you say you see no texture in FSDS that is probably where things go wrong. The textures should be saved to the FSC file, so I expect it goes wrong while loading the model. Not sure if FSDS supports DDS textures for example.

Thanks Arno. I didn't know the .mdl files were the same so that gave me a clue.
FSDS didn't like any imported textures (tried bmp dxt3 etc) However, I re imported the DAE into MCX and exported it as .mdl file straight to the AI aircraft folder to replace the 'black textured' model and YES!! just as I'd hoped. Screenie shows static on the right with the animated version on the left (complete with semi transparent windows). Just hope now I can remember the sequence to do another model.
Thanks again for MCX.

Sorry Bernardo it's not animated, but it does move around on a fixed taxipath. I got so excited that it was working I used the wrong terminology. :D
What it is is a 'vehicle' used as as an AI aircraft that would follow a taxiway without ever 'taking off' so I could use it as an airport (or outside) vehicle to increase the amount of vehicle traffic.
In the absence of any prog to generate vehicle traffic ( I can't begin to understand VB and simconnect) I'm using the method from 'Hama' and have my own ai traffic around the airport.
I have used AIBTC but that was not very accurate for small areas. This seems to work much better.

Ahh, all right , thanks, interesting, I use Aibtc, but as you say it is not very accurate to say something, I mean the vehicle desapear or just can't control his timetable. I have not investigated too much :D. I get my own car for fsx and I have to see the wheel animation from the Sdk. as you see too many things to watch

well, as most moving things are from a distance, the wheels not revolving would hardly be noticed :)

And that would be helped if you used a hubcap texture that didn't have spokes. :)

Oh the mine are titanium hubcaps with bright spokes, it's a pity. :D
Well the Aibtc method has been discarded, so I think that parked near somewhere will be good too. petrol save.
