• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Complete airport list data available anywhere?

Hi,

I've started dabbling with creating a companion app for Flight Simulator 2020 in a similar vein to OnAir / FSEconomy etc but geared toward single player adventuring / exploration rather than economy simulation.

To be able to generate missions between airports it seems like I will need to have access to a source of data containing all the airports in the game.

Is any such data available from the game installation itself or perhaps via a third party source?

You’d need to query the sim for it I suspect as different people will have different addon airports installed, and as already established the ICAO’s are very wrong, so you’d need to be able to read from the sim. Simconnect might be an option? Or FSUIPC?

Only "official" airports would be supported by this app.

SimConnect only allows fetching "nearby airports" as far as I know. But I'm new to this so might be wrong?

To clarify: the idea is to be able to plan out missions in the app without actually having the simulator running (as is possible with OnAir etc) so the source of data needs to exist outside of the game-engine.

Yes, I understand that. What I'm saying is there are differences with the ICAO codes that have been used in the sim. So the official airport ICAO's in real life may be different to those in the Sim. (Hopefully they will fix this).

Hi there. Here is an excel spreadsheet of US Airports that you can use if you like. It's in ZIP format. Just unzip and open. You can export the data wherever you like then.

P.S. I have the associated runway data too if anyone would like it

Thanks for helping out!

Could you confirm if these are the exact airports found in MSFS2020 or more like a general database of US airports?

If it's extracted from the game itself (which is what I need) I would love to know how it was created. At the end of the day I'll need ever single airport in the game, not only the US ones.

Little Navmap has a database of the MSFS airports. Mine is located in:

C:\Users\<yourr name>\AppData\Roaming\ABarthel\little_navmap_db\little_navmap_msfs.sqlite
You would need a sqlite reader to translate this to a CSV file, and then you can parse that CSV file for the data you'd like.
